Hi guys:

Just back from DW Sunday and we decided to take another quickie look at DVC one morning. We were driven over to the Boardwalk for the new presentation on the Sarratoga Springs resort.

Latest news we got was that the new owners get use of the property until 2052 now - added ten years! We loved the rooms they showed and SS is the only one left with rooms to sell. They are due to open in May 2004 and you do not have to pay maintenance until after it is opened.

We did not buy at the time but have all the info. One thing that turned us off: We had a saleswomen whe gave the presentation who was excellent BUT, she mentioned that in order to get the newest special ($750 off our purchase price) we would have to sign up for it before MONDAY. Well, we explained we were leaving to drive home on Saturday and were headed into the blizzard up north so we did not know if we'd be home by Monday. So, instead of being sympathetic about the drive, she told us we could always call on the road as we were driving up (into the snow). Thought that was a little too pushy/businesslike of her and not Disneylike. Anyhow, by the time we got home late Sunday, we were pooped and had to do food shopping and laundry and get FIL from assisted living, the day went by before we knew it.

We still have all the info and we are debating what to do. I liked the idea that they extended the ownership to 2052 as we have grandchildren who have never been to DW and children who could take over our lease when we go to that great DisneyWorld in the sky.

We would start with a studio for just us for now which would also be big enough for the grandchildren to be with us. I loved the one bedroom set up with the washer/dryer and full kitchen and separate bedroom too but we could always add on points.

Pros/cons?

Oh, once your hooked, your hooked. We thought we could do a studio most of the time. We tried a 1br and now a studio is just to small. I love the tub in the 1br & up; if I get up in the middle of the night which I do often because of hip problem, I can watch TV in the other room without disturbing DH. We like to eat breakfast, sometimes lunch or dinner in the room, can be done in a studio - but no stove, only Microwave. 1 br has nice kitchen setup. Studio only provides 4 paper plates ... you get real plates, etc plus a dishwasher. OK I'm spoiled. See, that's how you get after vacationing in a 1 br. Buy what you can afford, we started w/ 218. Now I want points at HH and it will be a long time before we can afford that. But wishes to come true and the grandkids would love both.

Well, I think you will do OK in a studio if you are not going to stay more than a week. For the last couple of years we have reserved mainly studios or 2 BR units. We don't like the OKW studios because there is no couch to sit on, but all of the other resorts give you a sofa bed which is great for sitting and reading or watching TV. Yes, we do those things. Don't do much of parks when we go alone since we have been going to WDW since 1972. We like to just relax, eat out, sit by the pool, etc. When we go with family, we reserve a 2 BR so everyone gets a separate BR. There are usually 3 or 4 adults and one child when we do a family thing. Same thing for friends - 2 BR unit. By alternating small and large units, we manage to fit in about 4 vacations a year.

I have to agree with Sandy that once you try the 1BR you're hooked. We love the extra space in the larger units, and the ability to do a load of laundry if you want is really a plus. It just takes forever for things to dry down there....not like here in Colorado. Do buy what you can afford and go from there. You are correct, you can add on later if you find that more points are needed. You just might have to wait for points to come available in your resort and use-year(month).
Good luck and if we can answer any other questions, ask away!
