The Trip: Our First Journey to Mousefest which turned out to be a great adventure.
The Cast: John the Larger, 43, DVC Member. John the Smaller, 10, Trip 19.
The Resort: I waitlisted for DVC, and waitlisted again, but it was not to be. I did use points however for 2 nights at Port Orleans Riverside, and one night at Old Key West(Way too short for my favorite resort)
The Plan: It is finally here. The day we cut out of school early and head to our favorite place. I have extra excitement knowing that we will be meeting many of our online friends this trip. Other than not being able to book a DVC resort, all planning went extremely well. We were able to get our MVMCP tickets easily, used Continental miles for our flight, and got a great deal on a rental car at Avis through Hotwire.com.
I left work at 11:30. I picked John the Smaller up around 12:30. We went home for a bit, picked up the luggage, loaded the dog for the sitter, and were on our way. Our flight was great, and we landed in Orlando 15 minutes early at 7:00PM. After picking up our car, and upgrading for $3 a day, we were on our way in our Blue Camry...I want one of these now. We arrived at the Magic Kingdom at around 8:00 and were in the gate for MVMCP by 8:30.
This was our first time for the party. We were hoping to run into our friends Ronski and Company, but weren't real sure who we were looking for. Oh well. Main Street was beautiful with the snow. I also loved the snowflake projections on the buildings. Smaller was not impressed with the snow and was quick to inform me that it was just soap...SCROOGE!! BAH! We walke through Tomorrowland and picked up Fast Passes for Space Mtn. on our way to Mickey's Philharmagic. We were able to walk right in just in time for the show. This is a fun show with alot of action. Smaller loved it. Not only for the show, but it was his first 3-D in contacts rather than glasses. I felt the show would be fine for smaller kids. The theater was packed, and there were no meltdowns.
After Philharmagic, we tried to get a spot for Wishes. We quickly discovered that this is definitely a find a place out front kind of show, and gave up our viewing attempt. Next time. Instead we waited in line for our complimentary MVMCP picture to be taken. Now, when we did this at the MNSSHP last year we received a photo of a lovely family, but it weren't us. I mentioned this to the company taking the pics, and they wrote down quite a description of us before we left the area. I'd hate to see that..."Shut Up, Ronski."
It was now time for our Fast Passes for Space Mtn. There was really no need for them, but it always nice to have them in case. The ride was awesome! Because of the small crowd, we had our own rocket. It was incredibly quiet with just the two of us, and made for a different, yet great ride. After SM, we crossed the Hub to get a bite to eat, and stake out our place for the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade. We had a wonderful spot just in front of the Shooting Arcade. I love this parade. It may be my favorite...Okay, one I saw at Disneyland Paris is my favorite, but only because of the music. Smaller was a bit antsy as his mind was set on Splash Mtn and Big Thunder. Both rides were walk-ons...we're having a good night here. The que at Big Thunder looks great. The rails has been refinished, and were beautiful. The ride was especially fast, and alot of fun.
Midnight was fast approaching and I wanted the MCMVP Annual Passholder pin, so we headed to Main Street so I could get that. This was where I first tried to lose John the Smaller, or vice versa...Do your kids ever lose focus and end up lost?? I quickly recovered him and went back to get the pin. Alas, closing time arrived, we headed to the Parking Lot, and were checking into PO Riverside at about 1:00AM. I was sad to discover we were in Alligator Bayou which is my all time least favorite resort area. Oh well, 2 nights...I can do it.
We finally hit the sack after quite an eventful day. Whew!! A whirlwind beginning to what will turn out to be a whirlwind weekend.
Going to MGM in the Morning...Oh Wait! It is morning!
