I want to do this in my kitchen once I get the wallpaper down! How How HOw! I just saw Snickerdoodlesmommy say she had done it! I was wondering if anyone else has. I love this stuff I just wish Doug Wilson from Trading Spaces would come do it for me!

VERY VERY VERY easy!!!
Just go up to Home Depot and they will fix you right up!! Lots of colors to choose from.
There will be a brochure for you to choose your color from and the directions are right on the can.
I believe it cost me around $29.95 a gallon and I applied it with a paint spatula.
I skipped the step where you put the sheen on it as I liked the more Tuscan look.
Also, once you get it done, and then a few months later decide to sell your house and move back to Florida, your realtor might come in and tell you to change the color
NO PROBLEM!!! You can paint right over the Venetian plaster without killing the look, just changing the color~!
Good Luck!! I'm sure it will look Fabulous~:)

Life's too short not to live it as a Texan :)
Texas is the only other state I would ever move back to. We used to live in Plano (10 years) and the schools were always very good there.
Bill goes to Dallas every once in a while on business trip and tells us we would be shocked at how much the area around Plano,McKinney and Allen has built up!:o

We have relatives just south of Sherman and it is getting to a point where you don't realize you've left "Dallas" area! Huge growth but even in the boonies it is getting that way.

my husband is a professional decorative painter so as a suggestion, there is a brand of consumer decorative painting products called Aqua that is made by Faux Effects..it blows any other consumer stuff away. i don't think they have a venetian plaster in that line ( only their pro line which is only sold to pros) but they do have a lusterstone, which is also a trowled on finish but more metalic so it looks more like the venetian plaster with a burnished or wax finish. i think our local Sherwin Williams is going to start selling it( they mentioned it to my hubby to see if he would teach some classes using it) but not sure if that's started or not...but faux effects does have website ( just add the .com to the name) not only are the colors better and the materials more durable, they are much easier to use and give a much nicer finish imo and not to trash doug wilson but he's a much better designer than finisher so i'm sure pretty most anyone's would look better with a little practice and decent material ( i haven't watched that show for a while but we always chuckled about the finishes they do, holy crow they are really bad but then again they don't use good material either)

I live in Dallas - six blocks from Plano and 2 blocks from Richardson and it is solid housing and malls nearly all the way to Allen and McKinney. (and I'd be more than happy to trade Texas (at least Dallas) for Central Fl.

of it , maybe, but not 'with' it. Venetion plaster is a thick, colored finish applyed to the walls with a trowel, butterknife, spatula or palette knife rather than a brush, so that rather than being flat like paint leaves some texture. It might make a great background with a little sidelighting that would show off the texture.

ooooh, sounds interesting. I never knew that kind of thing exists. Thanks for the explanation, Ursulinda. I'll try to have a look WRT availability in Canada. Maybe I can use it as prop (if required). Heck, I may have already use it as a background without knowing it (prop department usually deals with that) :girlears:

venetian plaster is one reason hubby never ever ever never will take my camera to work....we have way to many multi "faux finished" thermoses, radios, shoes, pants tee shirts etc etc etc so i know just how my camera would come back...uh" dear is that "Tuscan gold" or "chamois" covering my lens?":D

this is one of his samples( multicolor with i think a burnished finish, or it might be wax,,,brain numbness) it kind of nice cause they look rough but with the wax are super smooth...they should feel as slick as polished marble. but are a giant pain in the neck to photograph...i am making that my winter project since i think i need to do them in raw...it is really hard to get a good shot and the right coloration so any suggestions since i have i think at least 500 to take(   ) and editing each one will be about as time consuming as editing my vacation shots:yowsa: i think i am going to be forced to get some kind of better lighting than the giant trouble light type light i use now ( such a pro set up... teehee)to bounce light off them ( they glare really bad)

Jann,
first of all you can't use onboard flash. Either use available lighting, or use external flash with diffuser such as Omnibounce or I personally prefer Gary Fong. Hey, at least now you have a reason to upgrade to RebelXTi, Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS and (at least) Canon 580 EX flash plus Gary Fong diffuser! Oh and a Manfrotto tripod. They should be tax deductible since you'll be using the set for your business.
