View Full Version : how to find ip address
i'm trying to figure out how to find out what one of our computer's ip address is... i got an email "receipt" for a purchase made from one of our computers, and it gave the ip address. Anyone know how to find this so I can check the computers in the house & figure out who ordered something for $150? or if it's a hoax? i clicked on the "track your order" link & it says this site has been suspended.
grrrrrrrr- i'm thinking it's my son, who will be losing his computer if i find out it IS!
thanks!

Rhonda, go to http://checkip.dyndns.org/ from the computer and it will give you the IP address of the system requesting the page (the one you are on).

Another method of finding your IP is by running the winipcfg command. You would click on Start, then Run. Type in winipcfg. A box will pop up. Your IP will be listed. You might have to click on the arrow next to the box with your adapter or ethernet card listed. For instance in my case when I run this the box shows AOL adapter at the top, and there are zeros where the IP address should be. I scroll down and find my ethernet card listed, highlight it, and my IP shows up.

thanks joe & francine- the winipcfg command wouldn't work on my computer- maybe it's not the command used in my windows version...
Anyway my ip is nowhere NEAR what they are listing- on any of the computers in our house.
I'm thinking this is a hoax.... hopefully they didn't charge anything to anywhere!
