Between semesters I book time at the county crafts center to keep my hand in my pottery hobby. I went in today to look over some pieces and exercise studies I did and came home with these keepers.

AndyL, those are some really nice pieces. I especially like the platter. Did you create those?

Yes, It was made from scratch. Including the tools to make the stamped patterns.

I can only imagine the amount of time it took to make such nice artwork. And the tools to boot! That is really cool.

Thanks Christine. The Triangle dish was an experiment using glass marbles for the pool of color in the center. I figured since most glass melts around 1600 º F it would be interesting dropping a few into the hollow to see what would happen. Surprisingly the color deepened except at the outer edges of the pool where the marbles interacted with the base glaze and created a sort of blue halo. I'll prolly remake this form and try different colored marbles to see if the different chemistry in their coloring effects the glaze.

The glaze itself makes glass, right? They ARE very nice and your photos have really improved too! I love how the pottery *POPS* against the plain backgrounds.

Yes the glaze is a form of glass Linda. I tried varigated red marbles for the glass cullet in the pool. There's considerably more there then the thin layer of glaze tho. I was hoping to get an interesting effect from the cullet. Other possibilities to try? Broken up bottle glass, opalecent glass florist marbles, window glass (clear) and stained glass scrap.

Andy, you should have a hidden Mickey in each piece....your own trademark!
You will have to write a book one day-a compilation of all these techniques you have tried!
