Hi! Haven't had time to post, but I lurk when I can.

I bought 210 DVC pts in SSR in October. For my first trip home I wanted to treat my brother and sister to a 2 week vacation Aug 2004. Given their ages (15, and 16 at time of travel) I thought BCV would be the best with SAB and close to Boardwalk. Because BCV is "expensive" points I intend to do most of my vacationing at my home resort.
Anyway my :?: is...what are my odds of getting a studio at the 7 month window for Aug 7 till Aug 22 (I know I will need more points. I'll borrow from next year, as I know we won't be able to vacation in 2005)
I will secure the time at SSR until I can book BCV just in case.
Thanks in advance
JackieV

Welcome to the boards, Jackie, and welcome home to DVC! :D

What a generous thing for you to do to treat your brother and sister to BCV. I'm sure you are already the really cool big sis, but this'll push you over the top. 8)

My guess is that it wouldn't be too terribly hard to get the studio for August at 7 months out. Most of the school systems in the south have already gone back by that time, so I think that will improve your odds. I think what you're doing by booking SSR to be on the safe side and then trying for BCV at 7 months is the way to go.

Good luck! Hope to see you posting and planning for this trip. :D

Welcome to the site JackieV.

I have to agree with Alicia. If you call right at 7 months you have a pretty good chance at getting your dates. Using the waitlist for any days that aren't available would be a good idea - I've had good luck with using it in the past. Having a backup reservation at your home resort is also a good idea. And since there are more units at the BWV, trying there if BCV isn't available might also work well.

Good Luck, and hope to see you around the site! :)

Hi JackiV,
I was on a wait list for this trip and it worked out just fine. I agree that you should get the ressie at your home resort and then switch it at 7 months.

I successfully reserved SSR for my time. The more I see the pictures, the more I think I want to stay there. lol

I've heard that some people call daily and leave the reservation "open." Has everyone ever done this??

Yes and it worked for me. Just tell the CM that's what you want to do. We'll be staying at BCV's for the first time this month. Looks like it's going to be to cold to enjoy SAB but we can still hope. Welcome Home!

JackieV,

I can't add anything more than what's already been said. Your plan is very doable. We just bought 160 points this past May and BCV is my home. We'll be arriving on Aug 15 at BCV and leaving on the 20th. So maybe we can meet.

I know what you mean about juggling points to your best advantage. We're bringing another family with us. We're a family of 3 and the other family is a family of 4, 3 of whom have never been to WDW. The one that has been there hasn't been since it was only MK. At first I was going to get a 2BR at OKW for 2 nights and 3 at BCV. (We're spending our last 2 nights at the Royal Pacific at Uni.) I know that Disney will move our luggage for us, but I really didn't want to have to switch resorts. Being in the middle of the action and walking distance to EPCOT and Disney MGM (a longer walk I know but still very doable) as well as the Boardwalk was something I wanted for these friends. So I studied the member guidebook and finally figured out that I could get 2 studios for 2 nights for each family and then a 2BR for the last 3 nights. I know they'll love the studio, but their jaws will drop when they step into the 2BR.

I had no problem getting BCV at 7 months last summer. We are members at OKW and made those at 11 months and changed at 7 months with no problems (June 22-28).
