Let me make a correction to a previous chapter – I mentioned that when we were walking up and down Bourbon Street on Sunday Night we stopped outside The Old Absinthe House at St.. Phillip and turned around – the old watering establishment that graces that intersection is actually Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. It was built sometime before 1772, and is one of the few remaining original "French architecture" structures in the French Quarter. The Old Absinthe House which is also ancient and another drinking establishment can be found at the other end 240 Bourbon. - oldabsinthehouse.com

French Cream Chocolate Pastries
A/k/a you can’t eat seafood all the time!!
Rosie picked us up early and took us to Maurice Pastries - ackkk I almost curled up in a corner of the bakery with my fingers attached to the display case and refused to leave, please let me stay I pleaded with my eyes filled with rapture at the various delights. I made a mom decision as Tramp and Scamp were gazing along with me - we each must have two - one will not suffice! They acted as if this were normal – did not mind at all and went on to make their decisions without any question. Now the only problem was - which two to choose! We each found two and coffee for the guys – tea for me and sat at a table munching away – they were so so so good - Dang they were scrumtpious!! - a big Yum at Maurice's – Thank you Rosie for introducing us to one of your wonderful bakeries, ooooh we miss living by a city - they have a website which is: http://www.mauricefrenchpastries.com
Pleasantly crammed with French cream and confectioners sugar we made our way to the Metairie Cemetery - Rosie jumped in the main office and came back with a tape recorder and a map showing where famous people of New Orleans were buried - there were about 31 stops and we toured around the cemetery - taking some video footage - some still photos and also walking - at one point we even were able to open the door to one of the crypts and step into an anteroom - I was just a bit creepy about that - but managed until Rosie and Tramp left and I was still in there - Hey wait for me!!! One mausoleum that touched me was one that had a statue of a dog outside – he was in a reclined position but alert with his head up – they say that when his master died he would not leave the cemetery – and so his statue is there too – I almost cried over this one – I get sappy over animals.
Rosie then drove us to Crabby Jacks in Metairie- OMG this place is the place to go but, shhhh don’t tell anyone! - we were in heaven - today most assuredly must be food day! Rosie ordered 3 lbs of boiled crawfish and showed us how to eat them - they were good - we soon got the hang of it - or at least we hope we did, I looked over at Rosie’s face for approval, hope we weren’t too bad with our cracking and pulling skills - I had the soft-shell crab po-boy with unsweetened iced tea – Tramp and Scamp had a seafood combination platter and some gumbo they shared, and Rosie had red beans and rice with spicy hot sausage – we sat at tall tables on tall stools and if the ocean had been there I would have sworn we were at the Jersey Shore – that happened a lot throughout the trip – I kept having gentle heart reminders of my home at the Shore. Maybe it was all that seafood we kept eating lol
For just a few moments we had a scary thought - with the pastries and this lunch how are we going to eat dinner tonight at Commanders Palace?? Even though that scary thought traversed our minds we knew there would be no way we would miss the chef's table with Chef Tory of Commanders - wowzers!! We could walk around the riverboat for a few hours out on the river – yep – sounded good until we boarded and saw that there were plenty of tables, chairs and Daiquiris.
Rosie dropped us off at one of the streets near the river that would take us to the Natchez Steamboat, she would pick us up later about 6:40 for our Commander's Dinner. Time to do more tourist stuff - can't eat all the time! We boarded the Steamboat and were soon off up the Mississippi - as we boarded we were given small forms to fill out - a chance to win a wonderful vacation - cool - we filled them out, knowing we would soon receive stuff in our mailbox or through our emails and returned them to one of the staff.
We sat back in our seats, relaxing with our drinks – Scamp toured around the ship not looking at the ship’s nautical decorations but more of the two legged decorations – he had a field day – and we settled in to view the sights as we went lazily along the river absorbing the rum and dreaming of the 19th Century along the Mississippi.
My apologies.
