It was just announced on the news that Universal Studios is closing the Back to the Future ride. No new ride has been announced.

Personally, I think it's one of the best simulators designs. It beats the little room design of Star Tours and Body Wars by a mile.

I would be nice if they could keep the basic infrastructure and put an entirely new story in there.

We heard this the last time we visited the park. Now it is official. It is rumored it will be a total redesign, like Mummy was over Kong.

It's a shame. The way they built the ride in tiers, with each car appearing suspended in air, was a marvel. I remember seeing diagrams (at least of the USH) of the layout.

Add new 'cars', a new film and maybe even some 3-D and it would be like new. It's a shame it's at USF. I can imagine so many Disney stores that could be adapted. Imagine Mickey's Philharmagic...where you fly 'with' Donald. :D

It was the best simulator of its day but it seems it wore out its popularity when guests were more interested in the newer things. I don't disagree with you at all, but I bet the rumor of a total remake is true.

That ride knocked our socks off when it opened. My entire family loved it, and we ran the gamut in ride preferences.

I'm sorry to see it go, but not surprised as it's been around for so long.

People are often surprised at how much I like that ride because I'm such a ride wimp ~ but Back to the Future was incredible!! All the thrill, but none of the fear - who could ask for more?

First experienced it in CA - any word on that one?

It was definitely way ahead of its time when it opened, and I agree that it knocks the socks off of the enclosed simulators.

However, it was really showing its age when I rode it earlier in the year... and I think it's about the right time to replace it :-)

OK, we've got the what and why, but not the when. When is this going to happen? Will I get to say good bye to it next week?

I remember the first time we rode it...well over a decade ago. We went into US and I dragged the kids to the rear of the park to ride this attraction.

The first time we rode it we had no line at all...walked right up to the top of the ramp and waited maybe 5 minutes.

Later that day the queue was 2 hours long.

The flux capacitor!

When I went in '03, they had a short line but we skipped it. None of us cared to ride it. I will admit it was definately like no other ride but I did bang my head a few times.

I loved the use of the Omnimax screen, but I've always thought that the ride on Back to the Future was WAY too rough. The only place I could sit in the BTTF ride vehicle and not risk a concussion was the front row, center, and even then I would get a headache.

As a fan of the movies, I'm sorry to see the ride go, but after seeing Spiderman, MIB and the Mummy, I'm anxious to see what Universal will do next!

but I did bang my head a few times.

Ahhh, that explains it.

Looks like you've got until September, so you should just make it.

Thanks Robin. I think we'll ride it at least twice. I'm sorry to see it go, but if the replacement is anything like when they replaced Kongfrontation with Mummy I'll get over it with out too much of a problem.

Well that's a shame. It truly was a marvel, but I agree it's lost some of it's magic now. It's one we can easily skip now.

I too have an issue with it banging my head. If I don't get in the front row, I end up with a migraine for the day. Just not worth it as much as I love it.

Just to let you know that BTTF was still open as of last week... and the lines were huge!! The wait time was 45 mins when everything else in the park was 10-15 mins max.

I guess news of its pending demise got around!

Wow. I guess it has been a while since my family ventured over to USF. We rode BTTF when it was in technical rehersal. And now they are decommissioning the ride. Yikes.
