OK, I picked up on this from somewhere else, but I think it's very intriguing indeed.
Article on Miceage
http://www.miceage.com/guest/gu071806a.htm
It's about Disneyland Paris - the Studios portion - and the plan to revitalize it. I have no idea how confident one can be in this author, but he talks about the proposed map of the Studios:
"The Frontlot, Animation and Production Courtyards are all present and correct, but there are some incongruous additions. Buzz Lightyear's Laser Blast stands alongside the Flying Carpets, and a large, semi-circular theatre labeled "Legend of the Lion King" occupies the spot where the Tower of Terror now stands. Directly opposite, the empty space between Cinémagique and Disney Channel is filled by a handsome art deco building entitled "Soarin' Over The World." "
And then adds this paragraph later:
"All these additions could be rushed into service by 2008.
By that time, construction on Soarin' Over The World would be well underway. The ride has already been given the provisional green light, which means the groundbreaking can take place as soon as visitor targets are met. I am told that the film is already in the can and, as the name suggests, constitutes a hang glider voyage across some of the world's most famous landscapes, including Manhattan Island, the Great Wall of China and the Serengeti Plains. If all goes well, the opening date would be 2009/2010."
If this is true, and a Soarin' Over the World is already in the can - meaning it is filmed - then could a new film for Epcot Soarin' be possible for Epcot's 25th????
AND - all this information about transforming the Studios and the July 7th announcement that came and went that MikeS strongly hinted at Harry Potter. Could it be some Harry Potter stuff is destined for DLP? Could the announcement delay be the attendance goals mentioned in this article.
OK, I'm just musing on and on here. So who would like to chew on this with me?

Nancy, I don't know about HP and DLP. But if I remember correctly; back when they were building Soarin for WDW, there was a consensus that the film would be the one used in DL. Then later they would do a new film for WDW. I thought at that time they were going to film over Florida and thought it would be kinda boring. I love Florida, but it's flat with a lot of lakes. Not as much visual interest as California with it's various terrains and weather zones.
It might be that the film they are working on or have finished could be rolled out at WDW too. That would be great to have a World Soarin' film at Walt Disney World!

Soarin' over the World would be great & would certainly fit at Epcot. They could use the 11 countries from World Showcase, how perfect would that be!

Oh MJ that's a great thought - and then they can throw in all the ones that were in the Millennium Village also.
and MJT (not to be comfused with MJ...) I remember that as well. Fl would be boring indeed, especially since Mt. Everest is the highest mountain in Florida. Besides it's Walt Disney WORLD  isn't it.
Now Soarin' over New England would be kinda neat. ;) Let's see beaches, rocks, lighthouses, mountains, lakes, skiing, golfing, ocean, islands and for variety - Desert of Maine

What a great find Nancy! I have great hope that it would be part of Epcot's 25th. The California movie is great but the world one would give me shivvers. Something to hope for for sure!

It's good to hear they are investing in a new film for Soarin'. I don't mind the California version, though I think ending with the Christmas parade was an odd choice. Having the San Diego segment going over the aircraft carrier probably isn't the best choice international appeal.
I do wish they make extra segments and save them for the future, so they can periodically mix and match them into new films.
I hope they go for some 'new' places. After visiting all the 360 films in WS, I hope they can find some original places or angles.
And Kathleena...I've been to the Desert of Maine.

While I too love the scenes of California at Soarin in WDW, I've always felt the film should be more global for EPCOT. I hope this rumor does come to fruition.

Yes, Soarin' over NE would be great. Maybe they should do a Soarin' film over all 50 USA States too. Then they could show that one for the next USA milestone....When will that be? 250 years in 2026. I might still make another flight then! If they wait for the Tri-Centennial I would be out of luck.:)

Remember the Magic Carpet Ride (or whatever it was called) in Tomorrowland in MK? It was that 360 screen and it took us to visit different countries and the US? LOVED that and had hoped Soarin' would be an updated version of that...the MK one made me motion sick - remember we stood with metal railings to hold if needed?
Robin, thought the Christmas parade was kind of odd too - why not 4th of July since it was a kind of tribute to America - or was it a tribute to CA? I've never seen the entirity with eyes wide open. Working on that

About a year before Soarin' opened in EPCOT everyone was wondering what film would be shown at the WDW.
Dave Smith, long time Disney trivia expert was convinced that the film that would be shown was going to be something like "Soarin' Over America" and would highlight such areas as the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, the Great Lakes, and other well-known landmarks.
He made this observation to many people...as if it was a done deal.
It was obviously cheaper to just make a copy of the present DL film and go with that.
There was some talk that Eisner did not want to spend the money to make a new film.
The other issue was the problem of national security and terrorism...there were some areas that Disney may have wanted to film but were in a "no fly" zone at the time they wanted to make the film.
So cost and no-access kinda squashed the production of "Soarin' over America."
Dave Smith was quite adament however saying that the film would eventually make it's way to EPCOT.
If I were to make a bet I'd say it shows up late Summer or early Fall of 2007.

Don't give them any ideas. You just gave them a theme for a rollercoaster in Epcot.

Soarin' over PA would be very safe ................. and boring!!
They could soar over cows and cornfields, cows and cornfields, cows and cornfields........you get the picture!!! It could be great ride when you're really worn out and want a nice long nap!!!
Of course they could always show the Gettysburg Battlefield during a re-enactment - that would wake you back up!!!

Just Soarin Over the East Coast would be pretty cool. From Maine to FL.

I was just thinking about how Soarin' ends with the Christmas parade at DL and thought...wouldn't a holiday version of Soarin' be cool?:snowman:
Imagine a snowy New England harbor with the boats all decked out. Skiing in the mountains, cities with pretty blankets of snow and holiday lights. Maybe even a Santa water skiing in Hawaii.

Just as long as the film isn't Soarin' over Florida! We don't have much of diversity in landscape here. Plus I shudder to think what the smell-o-vision would make of our swamps!:yowsa: Yuck! We don't even have that many orange groves (compared to 20 years ago) because of cold spells/ citrus canker/ and hurricanes. Soarin' over the USA or Europe would be cool.
