In the belief that it's never too early to start planning a trip to WDW, I'm trying to determine when MF'07 will be to see if I'll be able to go:confused: . Will the land portion begin 11/29/07, (the first Thursday after Thanksgiving like last year) followed by the DCL cruise? If so I may just be able to do it:) :D . If it doesn't start until 12/6/07 I may not be able to go...again  .

Thanks BA. Well there's good news and bad news in there. The bad news is that not only will I not be able to go this year, I won't be able to go next year either. The good news is that if everything stays status quo I'll be available to go in '08, '09 and '10. Let the planning begin ;)
Not that I'm complaining, but didn't the land portion alternate between being before and after the cruise so that people could use AP's that were activated at MF two years in a row?

Yes, it did, and that worked for me. This doesn't. But apparently the people who cruise are in the majority, so the schedule was set to suit the cruisers.

I remember they took a pool aftr last years MF. I recall them asking about the cruise before or after and I thought, well that would only matter to a cruiser, now wouldn't it.
Because I wasn't thinking about what the effect would be if the cruise was always before.
I was surprised it was changed, nd looking at the sign up list on the website, it doesn't seem like there are as many cruisers - lots more on land.

I was wondering the same thing when this info came out on mousefest.org. Alternating lets you use an AP for two years. With the new dates, you can't.:( :(
I guess I should of filled out that questionnaire!! Woulda, shoulda,coulda's:-o :-o :-o
Looks like 2007 and 2008 will not happen for me. But who knows!!:minnie: :minnie: :minnie:

Having the land portain later in December harder for me to attend, including this year, though hoping this yr will happen.
I too liked it much better when it alternated.
I thought the change was because most people voted for the second week for Land.
It's just fabulous when most of us can be there - like a big family reunion!
I really hope that this works out better for those who voted to change it, because it now costs me between 300 and 400 dollars every year and before I only had to pay that every other year. What makes it even worse for me is that NOW there is a DVC discount on the AP and I can not take advantage of it.
I guess the best thing for me to do now is purchase a park hopper 10 day nonexpiring pass and use the days two years in a row.

Carl, that's a good idea to purchase a 10 day nonexpiring park hopper - had not considered that because I sometimes have a chance for a short unexpected visit, but those are getting less likely.
The great thing about an AP was never having to worry about how much time was spent in a park - could go over for a quick bite, one attraction, shop etc..with an actual tkt I'd not be able (or would want) to use an entire day for a short visit.

Hi Folks,
Here's what went into determining the MF dates for the future. Several things were taken into consideration (listed in no particular order).
Mousefest 2005 Survey. This is a biggie!!! Only 14% of those responded said they wanted to alternate weekends. Everyone else said it either didn't matter, or to keep it the same weekend.
Originally the idea was to have the MF Cruise PRIOR to the land portion. In alternating weekends, we ran into a problem with the cruise starting on Thanksgiving weekend. Not only did this mess with folks holiday plans it meant for much higher cruise prices.
We thought doing the cruise after the land portion would work, hence we tried that in 2005. We found that it had a negative impact on the MF Land and also cruisers felt they left before they got to some events they wanted.
The MouseFest Organizing Committee is made up of individuals representing communities and websites. Tagrel is represented by Dave. After taking the survey comments and their community comments into consideration, the committee voted to keep MF the same weekend every year.
From reading the thread, it sounds like a number of you didn't take the survey. We do listen a great deal to the survey responses and try to make the event better each year. Don't hestitate in the future to "vote" and make your voice heard.
As an aside, Dave was instrumental in having us split Friday between AK and MGM so Tagrel folks could attend some AK events and still have their MGM events.
If anyone has other questions, please let me know.
Deb

Hey Deb! Thanks for checking in, I figured you would have the answers!
I thought I had remembered it was something like this, but couldn't remember the questions that were asked. I just remember thinking it would only matter to me if the cruise came before or after IF I was cruising, so I would have answered that it didn't matter.
However, I wasn't thinking of the AP situation. So in retrospect, if a question had been asked about, do you plan your AP usage around MouseFest, so do the alternating weekends matter, then perhaps the answer would have been different.
Do you get what I mean?
For me, my AP is usually renewable in the spring, so it's not a big deal, but it is for some. So the change for the lower cost of the cruise, may have been traded for a higher cost of park tickets. Aside from the issue of leaving on Sunday, of course.

Kind of sounds like there is no way to make everyone happy. I can see both sides of the issue. My guess is an AP and the 3 or 4 night cruise would be about the same amount (if you cruise in a lower cabin). Really hard to decide how to make that seem equal all around.
I am only slightly worried that the dates go as far back as Dec 15 on a year or two. This may make it hard for some people be able to attend as now it is moving in on the holidays time!
Having said all that - it is as always an individual choice on when you go to Disney. It is great fun to be there when lots of your internet friends are there and your internet family but it is not always possible. So people will have to decide what works best for their budget, their time availability and such.

Pretty much what I was thinking too BA. There's no way to make it right for everyone, and both views definately have merit.

I agree as well..but  it sure was great when MF was earlier...it will be too close to the holidays some years - even this year is very borderline for me.
I voted for the alternating dates because I thought it would keep it fair/balanced out for all, even tho it would likely mean I'd have to skip every other year.
Happy to attend whenever it works out!! :mickeyXmas:
