I heard today from a reliable source that a new E Ticket Attraction WILL be going into The Disney - MGM Studios, to be finished by the end of 2008. It is to occupy the space between Backlot Tours and Voyage of the Little Mermaid. There are engineers already mapping out the existing gas, water and sewer lines behind Millionaire. There was no hint given as to what it will be!! We can just keep our Eyes & Ears open! and wait!

A Pixar E ticket ride - please the Monsters, Inc - door rollercoaster or maybe a Toy Story car chase attraction!

Linda, I think you have something there. This was also suggested in the Magical Mountain article that Robin posted earlier in the week. I would love to see another Toy Story dark ride. If it loads as quickly as Buzz, it will be very popular. Hurray! :yahoo:

I heard a story months ago that the new attraction would be a traditional outdoor steel roller coaster with a Monsters Inc theme (I'm thinking Flying Doors or something similar).
I do also think that, given that the announcement coincides with the opening of "Cars", it is possible that the Autopia/Tomorrowland Speedways may yet wind up getting a Cars makeover. After all, how difficult would it be to put some Cars-related stuff around the tracks and revamp the ride vehicles to look like Lightning and Mater?

Please, please, please - someone redo Tomorrowland Speedway. My boys just have to go on it. You get such a good view of it on your way to Toon Town that it is hard to avoid. Just hate waiting in that line and the scenery along the course could be better.

Cool! I'm hoping for all of the above - a Monsters, Inc. attraction AND revamped Speedway!! :) :)

MGM doesn't need another thrill ride IMO. It needs another family ride.

By a "dark" ride are they talking about attractions like Buzz, Snow White and Peter Pan? If so, I certainly don't consider them to be "E" rides. I love them, but they're not "E" rides IMHO.

I agree with Timon - a dark ride a la the kiddie rides at the MK wouldn't be an E ticket ride. I think of E ticket as being the big rides like all the mountains, RNRC, ToT, Soarin etc.
The Monsters Inc ride at DCA is cute, but it's definately the kiddie dark ride.
I would be very sad to see WWTBAM go. While there a few weeks ago, every show I went to on multiple days was full. Just about every seat.
In the article it mentioned closing Mermaid due to pending broadway show and gave that the reason for Tarzan closing too. Apparently he forgets the Beauty and the Beast ran on Broadway while also running at the Studios, so the speculation there just doesn't hold water (pardon the pun, Ariel).
While I find the Jim Hill Media reports interesting, I look at them this way. If you speculate 100 times, then some percentage of the time, you will be correct.
But the thought of Mike's media event being to announce partnerships in developing attractions at both parks is interesting..................but why would disney want to put the same ones in all parks - wouldn't that make it more so people don't feel the need to visit all the parks around the world? They like to keep them different for a reason.
And, lastly. I loved DCA, unlike how that article sounds. I thought it was wonderful and the Paradise Pier fit the theme of the park. They do have a ride there called Mullholland Madness - looks like Primeval Whirl a bit - along those lines. I kind doubt they would put another ride in called "Madness".
But like I said - speculate enough, and you are bound to be right some of the time.....

Autotopia needs a complete rehab, most importantly, replacing everyone one of those noisy, smelly cars. I was amazed at the HUGE difference between our old cars, and the ones at Disneyland. They are pretty quiet, and there are no choking fumes. I'm not sure how much customization of the cars would cost, but even just painting them to look more 'cartoonish' would be an improvement.
I've never really understoond Disney's 'love' of the Autotopia. Recently they announced they were going to add one to Hong Kong DL, and I though what a waste of such a huge amount of space. I wonder if they are simply cheap to run.

The Lion King has also been playing on Broadway for years, so I agree that theory makes no sense. If anything, I would think the mini-version, would simply wet the appetite to see the full production.
I'd more likely believe the think the park is too 'show heavy' or simply the mechanics of VotLM is getting old, and they'd rather replace it than rehab.
The VotLM building is separating from WWTBAM by a pathway to backstage. One's Man's Dream is just past the Mermaid theater, so I wonder if they plan to work around it.
Another Buzz clone with a different theme will be like Star Wars vs Body Wars. Same ride, different story. I hope we get something 'different' and not just a copy of something we have.
BTW, I haven't heard any rumors about the Indy show lately. I know there was talk a while back of it being replaced with an E ticket.
Whatever they do, they need to keep a certain balance age groups. VotLM appealed to 'families' and was kid friendly. If they are going to use MGM (the character meal) to entice families with younger kids to visit, they need to have attractions that are family friendly.

I agree about the broadway shows. It doesn't make sense. (btw I saw the Lion King on stage in London, and it was amazing!) It's just an explanation that sounds good when it is first heard.
IMO I think that MGM needs another "big" ride, to entice people to come to the park.
