Miss B, for giving a moderate a try, you can't go wrong with the Port Orleans resorts.

Both have almost a park like atmosphere with all the trees, flowers and grassy area. The riverboat ride to DTD is so nice, as it goes past some less developed areas. Over at Riverside (a short stroll along the river from FQ) you have a nice restaurant in Boatwrights, a marina...and horse drawn carriage rides that seem just made for you and Bernard. :wuv: :wuv:

POFQ's rooms were all rehabbed not long ago. They're smaller than deluxe rooms, but very nicely furnished.:)

MissBianca
03-13-2006, 03:33 PM
Carriage rides! :woot: Oh. :( It's 90% sure that Bernard won't make it this year. And cute as he is, Frogman is just not someone I'd want to do a carriage ride with.

I'm already booked for Boardwalk Villas Dec 7-13.

BetsyAnn
03-14-2006, 09:46 PM
Hey Topaz - It takes 10 rooms to get a group rate, all 10 rooms must be paid for in advance and all 10 rooms must be used on at least one night. I can talk to the gals at Your Magical Journeys if we want and see what the rates like look at this point. There maybe some AP rates later may not be.

I think maybe we could get a Magical Gatherings number again for the Taginators at Mousefest - that put us in the same building last year!

Boardwalk Villas - so cool Carl!

From Nanci at YourMagical Journeys

Tagrel's Mousefest Group
December 6- 10, 2006
DISNEY'S PORT ORLEANS RESORT FRENCH QUARTER - classic Southern hospitality, plus fantasy playgrounds & pools
COMMISSIONABLE ROOM RATES $120.00 + 11.5% tax per room, per night.
Rooms accommodate a maximum of four (4) guests in two (2) double beds.

DISNEY'S WILDERNESS LODGE - Luxurious reflection of the famous National Park lodges of America’s Northwest
Courtyard View ~ COMMISSIONABLE ROOM RATES $208.00 + 11.5% tax per room, per night.
Rooms accommodate a maximum of four (4) guests in two (2) queen beds.

Nanci's thoughts on waiting for AP rates

The only thing with waiting for AP is
1. are the rates going to be much lower
2. are you going to all be able to get POFQ on it anyway.

Depends on how comfortable ya'all are with the risks on each side.

Yeah, I asked for WL just because and it is a great rate.........

SO what are our thoughts now that we have some more info?

Bookwood
03-18-2006, 06:03 AM
I'm willing to book now if anyone else is at either resort- although I'd prefer POFQ for the price difference- but then I've never stayed at a Disney Delux resort!

Carrie
03-18-2006, 11:52 AM
I'd go for WL if I could find a roommate. If not, I'd vote for POFQ.

BetsyAnn
03-18-2006, 11:54 AM
I am in for either place - POFQ is my home resort so that one is fine - if we have a block for 10 rooms at WL - then the mom said we could talk her into staying there too ;) We are also willing to book and could take a 3rd person in our room if that is helpful. I talk in my sleep - The mom snoores and we are fairly messy! :D You have been warned!

I calculate $133.80 per night per room with tax at PO-FQ - If two people share $66.90 per person, per night, if 3 people $44.60 per person, per night, and if 4 people share $33.45 person, per night

I calculate 231.92 per night per room with Tax at WL - If two people share per night it would be $115.96 per person, 3 people would be $ 77.31 per person, per night and 4 people would be $57.98 per person, per night.

Sheryl
03-18-2006, 03:10 PM
As much as I LOVE the WL, the price for POFQ fits into my budget more right now.

MissBianca
03-18-2006, 03:50 PM
While I would love to stay at a Deluxe (I'm so into room service ) this year I would prefer POFQ. Otherwise, I simply wouldn't be able to afford to go cheer on the marathonners. :(

Frogman
03-18-2006, 06:07 PM

MargaretJ
03-18-2006, 06:26 PM
Not sure I can go yet but that sounds pretty expensive for doing absolutely nothing but sleeping in a room. While I love POFQ I think I may have to be at Pop again (if I go) because we got Pop last year for less than 1/2 of what POFQ is with a group rate.

I'm staying in a studio at the BWV. I was thinking of staying at a group hotel the first few nights, but then I would have to move on Saturday as DH comes in then. I really want to keep Sat open for all the activites, so have decided to just stay in one place.

But - having said that - if anyone was looking to save some $$$ the first few nights (Wed, Thu and Fri) I would be happy to work out a roomie situation. Right now I'm planning on being there by myself.

Topaz
03-18-2006, 07:26 PM
As much as I would love WL, I vote for FQ.

I will be staying, either single, or with someone, if anyone wants to room with a 50 something yr old who gets up early and goes to bed somewhat early(tho during MF, I was known to hit the sack at midnight a couple of times!!!:o )

I plan to be checking in on Dec 5, out 12th.

BetsyAnn,Can we get the rooms, under grand gathering, and try for AP rates when they become available? Or is MF going to have rooms blocked, like last year?

Thanks BetsyAnn for checking into this.

Topaz
03-19-2006, 10:24 AM
I'm sure there will be ppl at Scopa towers, but I want to try another resort. I have never stayed at the FQ, so this will be a treat for me. I suspect the prices will go down from $120,as they have every year prior that I can think of.

I found this showing previous discounts and when they became available.

http://www.mousesavers.com/faq.html#codetrends

I would like the flexibility to try the lower rate if and when it comes out.

Betsyann, if we do the grp rate, are we locked into that rate?

Thanks for checking this out.

I'm thinking $120 plus tax for POFQ is pretty steep. Especially since like Margaret said, we won't be sleeping much. MF 2 years ago POFQ was only $79 if I recall correctly. I'm thinking I'll be at POP if the rates don't come down. I can't afford that and then the splurge trip the next month for the 1/2 marathon. :(

BetsyAnn
03-19-2006, 01:56 PM
Topaz - Yes we have to lock in the rate when we book and pay for it. I am willing to wait it out if that is what the group wants to do. The only risk I see is PO-FQ selling out of AP rates. I am still thinking a Magical Gathering number may be the way to go- that will allow everyone to stay at the resort that fits their budget and their preferences. I think having that number helped group us close to each other last year in the resorts.

I do not want to stay at Pop Century. I am willing to stay at Music or Movies in the All Stars if we want to stay there as a group. It is fun to stay at the same resort for late night activities ;) It is not a prerequisite for having a great Mousefest :D

What a great thread! Have been sick for a week so I'm late in checking in, but I'd love for French Quarter and a Grand Gathering number :) I tend toward booking now and hope for a good AP rate later :) Would hate not to book early and find no room at the Inn.

If an AP doesn't come out could we transfer to a group rate the end of August? Can the dining plan be added to the group rate?

Hey, Frogman welcome to the Wild Women! :mickeyXmas:

What does Tink 1 think of getting us AP rates if they come out all right away together?? I'd love to stay at POFQ again but. . . can wait until Marathon if it's cheaper and easier for everyone else to stay elsewhere. I vote for staying as a group- where isnt' important to me! Although BA it's been a long time since I've been to Movies too!

Topaz
03-19-2006, 02:47 PM
I think if we get a Grand gathering , we can have rooms together, whether it's at the FQ or Pop.

I don't want to commit to a group rate, since it can't be changed.

Maybe we could reserve our own with Nanc, and she can coordinate the ressies, giving them the GG #. Then she can be on the look out for lower rates.

I think we all have different comfort levels. Me, I can wait.

I normally don't try to get the airline discount because it is now such a big pain in the behind but I may try it for this year's MF. Disney makes you jump through quite a few hoops but my dream was to use it for a deluxe but I do love POFQ. I wouldn't mind sharing with a roommate if someone needs help with their budget. I'm thinking! Scary thought with only 1/2 a cup of coffee on board, so watch out folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since, some of our budgets don't allow the moderate this time.

And since, some of us prefer not to stay at Pop, how about we think about All-star Movies?

I love the Movies resort! And a AAA rate of $63 sounds poifect for moi! :D

Now we don't all have to stay together, but the Pressed Pennies could try to stay in one central location and those that the budget allows could try and stay at the same moderate location.

How's that for thinking? Whatdaya think?

Frogman
03-21-2006, 08:15 AM
If there is a group at Movies I would go there. As MargaretJ said earlier it is pretty much just a room to sleep in. I also want to go to marathon so saving any money during MF is a good thing.

MargaretJ
03-21-2006, 12:36 PM
I think with almost 9 months of saving I can say I will probably be able to make it but my cheap flying benefits that I have for 20+ years are ending in June! The cost of a plane ticket also has to be considered now too in addition to tickets. My AP runs out on December 1st! With that said if I do get to go I am all for All Star Movies.

BetsyAnn
03-21-2006, 04:23 PM
:D
We discussed some places; budget is always important -Looks like there are two groups forming a group for PO-FQ and Movies

so maybe the questions now are - what is the deciding factor - being in the same resort or staying at a specfic resort?

Once again, I say staying together has a few perks for late night gatherings, but everyone being in the same resort is not a pre-requiste for having a great mousefest! You can be wild and crazy just about all the time or so I have been told!;)

MissBianca

BaciBecky
03-22-2006, 07:47 AM
Ohh, MissB....be careful or you'll have a line out the door hoping to room with you!!

MissB, I remember my first time trying a moderate in '88. I was worried it would be awful. Had only stayed at Poly and CR, but CBR was brand new (and the first moderate), so decided to give it a try. It took a couple of days to adjust, but then I stayed there my next 5 trips! The savings was just so darn good and the resort was beautiful. POFQ is lovely, so quaint.

Sounds like we'll have two groups this year - one at Movies and one at POFQ. What fun!! I'll stick with FQ - not only do I love that resort, but have a connection who will help with room assignments. Once we all have our ressies and it gets closer I'd be happy to ask if she could put us all nearby. Sure it will not be a problem. :D

Hey, we can gather at Scat Cats for thsoe late night get togethers - Elliot is terrific! :D

BriarRose

I ABSOULETLY REFUSE to stay at the All-stars or Pop again. Nope can't do it don't care the cc can handle the little extra for a few nicer beds :D

So i guess that puts me in the POFQ camp :D But fun happens no matter where we get together and a van may be in order to be the shuttle driver :D

BetsyAnn
03-22-2006, 11:31 PM
Well I would say if those who want to book now - go for it - I agree with SusanL - start with the AAA discount and go from there if there is an AP rate or a better deal down the road. Looks like PO-FQ and All Star Music! Movies! Maybe some one should warn them! LOL

I am think PO-FQ but if we get a cabin on the 14 day West Transatlantic then it may be Movies for us! ;)

Maybe we can have a hot tub meet at PO-FQ?????? :D

Hmmm... How am I ever gonna convince Beast I need a girls weekend trip after my April birthday trip, Aug anniversary trip, Sept in DL and the Jan '07 Marathon??? I soooo want to be in on this Wild Women stuff

Since those who hate Pop are staying at FQ what say we rethink Pop? The location is more centrally located & I like only one bus stop rather than the 3 at All Stars?

:flower: Margaret, I don't hate POP - it's just that when the pocketbook allows I like to stay at FQ instead (and if there was more in there I'd move up to a deluxe! :lol). :flower:

For a value I prefer POP for the the reasons you mentioned and I like the understated decor in the rooms - the All Stars rooms would make me dizzy in 10 mins

I do hope lots of the Wild Women will be at FQ this year - only had a day with them last MF, but this year I want to become an official Wild Woman!! :yahoo:

eta: Belle, there simply must be a way!! You have to be with us for MF!! :tinkright:

I've put a poll in a seperate thread. Maybe this will help us valuers decide. I'm getting excited! :mickeyXmas:

I don't care where I stay. I'm with Sheryl whatever she decides. :) Had a blast last year and plan on it again! :yahoo: The weekend will start off right if you find friends while staring into strange windows.

I do like the idea of going ahead and reserving a room now, but switching to an AP rate when it comes out.
