View Full Version : More discussion - new meets?

Along with Dave's raging debate over park days, how about some discussion on new meet ideas.

I hosted two Targel-only meets last year and both were a lot of fun (Pre-Liberty Tree Haunted Mansion meet, and Kona Cafe Breakfast meet).

I'd like to host another Tagrel meet this year, but I'd also like to host a general mee, open to all MouseFesters.

I know that many have expressed distaste at the idea of throwing Tagrel meets open to all, but I'm only suggesting opening one or two meets.

For my Tagrel meet I'd like to do another breakfast. Perhaps we could meet on whatever day we wind up doing AK for breakfast at Tusker House (counter-service meals are much easier to attend than sit-downs).

For my open meet, I would like to have some sort of game or activity to make things more interesting, and hold it in an open venue like a food court (Noodle Station, Studio Caterers, Electric Umbrella, etc) so that there would be seating, shade, and proximity to food and beverages, and to bathrooms.

I need ideas for my activities, and input on locations, dates, and times.

I love the idea of a game or activity meet! As much as I enjoyed meeting with other Taginators, for me the best meet was a non-Tagrel one. My favorite meet was the Ultimate Orlando Challenge one. Even if we hadn't won, I still would have thought it the best. Unfortunately though because of other conflicts on all the schedules, it was a pretty small meet - of course that is why we won.

A Tagrel meet that was a game/activity would make it all that much better.

Lunch at the Noodle Station could be fun. There's a lot of seating area there and a great view of the Hub. I don't remember if they had any non-Asia options, but Casey's and the Bakery are only a short walk from there, so folks could have the option to pick something up on the way over.

Other than meets that required ADRs, have limited seating require some pre-arranging (like the Gift Game) I'm all for opening them up to others. You never know if there are someone coming solo to MouseFest who'd rather come ride an attraction with us than have to go alone.

My only suggestion would be any events we open up, we still request folks come to the board to sign up. This will give us an idea of how many will attend.

Will, I like your idea of having the breakfast meet at a counter service place, I know how much work it was for you last year to try and get all the ADR's organized and it was also not easy for the CM's trying to serve us, separate bills and all. Then we threw the DDE card discount at them and that caused more work, not to mention our need for calculators  . But the breakfast meet was one of my favorite meets and it was nice having it on the last morning so we had a chance to say goodbye to each other. :grouphug:

As for an open meet, I like the idea of mixing with other groups.

Here's a couple of my thoughts:

MK - Beat your Butt on Buzz, a prize for the highest score. :bounce:
EPCOT - Illuminations meet (maybe a dessert party) :eat:
MGM - Fantasmic meet - or Osborne Family Lights meet :mickeyXmas:
AK - Kali River Rapids, a prize for the person who gets the most wet :yikes:

I also enjoyed your Haunted Mansion meet before dinner on the MVMCP night, as we were gathering there was another group also getting together for a meet there so maybe that would be a good one to open up.

For the game how about a digital photo scavanger hunt (I love scavenger hunts) YOu could make a list of things to find then the groups would have to take a photo finding/holding/wearing/(whatever) the object. There are alot of digital cameras these days and if the owner of the camera didn't want the photos they could discard them later. (winners shortest time with all items or most items)

Ohh, Carol, an Osborne Lights Meets sounds great!

Last year Candi and I went around counting the hidden Mickey's and found something like 63 or 65 - checked with a CM to be sure we weren't going overboard counting ones that didn't really apply, but she said nope, there are about 65!

I'm not usually into finding hidden Mickeys, but it was fun at Osborne Lights :Mickeyxmas:

I propose we have breakfast somewhere where there is no rude waiter :p

What do you do best Will? I think you have quite a bit of knowledge in you. How about a trivia contest or scavenger hunt type thing? I'm sure you'd have no trouble finding a few people to help you host and come up with some doorprizes.

Will, great idea to have counter service for a meal meet. Tusker House would be great. There's lots of room, and good food, and COFFEE!!!

I love challenges, like Mouseplanets,or scavenger hunt,or trivia like Lou's, but I don't have a digital camera, so will have to hang out with some one who does.

Maybe we would do the passports around World showcase. One with the most signatures, in shortest time..... most character signatures.......now, no cheating!

WOW, it's so much fun thinking about it.!!!

Do we want to make our own trivia games or send a few Taginator Teams over to some of the existing games?

My 2 cents -- although I won't be at Mousefest. I had the most fun playing a scavenger hunt game with my friends one day. We split into 2 teams of 4 with a pretty big list I had put together. We intentionally split family members -- to slow down the friction and speed up the interaction. You could have random items or a theme -- trash cans, light posts, CM costumes, etc. It's A LOT of fun!

I love Pam's idea of the Digital Scavenger Hunt - how fun would that be. It would also be fun to randomize people and teams too - that is also a great idea.

The items on the list could be given point values (harder to find / do = more points) so teams could sort of choose what they may be able to do.

All the meets that we attended were fun but I do think that those that were more flexible were the most fun.

Thanks for offering Will - you are so creative - whatever it is will be great!

I enjoyed all of the meets I was able to attend. The counter service breakfast would be great at Tusker House and would be a great starting point for our AK day. A scavenger hunt or trivia game would be very fun and Buzz is always great to get the old competive juices flowing. One of my most favorite rides is POC and I would love to see a HM/POC meet with a great group of TAGS. :boyears:

Will, you had great meets last Dec - I'm sure whatever you do will be fun for everyone!

I think a counter service breakfast meet sounds great. Tusker House serves a great breakfast. I think they serve until 10:30, so a brunch situation could be had! My only thought is that EE is on the other side of the park, and it's likely to be the first place someone goes now at rope drop rather than the safari? Just thinking ahead in case anyone sets up an EE meet too.

I'm really interested in the photo scavenger hunt idea - I had read about them in the MouseFest guide and wanted to do one, but decided to concentrate on the Tag meets instead. I do think a contest/game would be a great addition to your meets.

I like the idea of sending Tag teams to the other contest meets. I just bought a Digital Rebel XT - anyone who is looking for a partner with a digital I love taking photos!
