I can't figure out the picture thing. Does your picture has to have a url address to be able to be posted? Help! I'm completely computer illiterate

Any picture that you see on the web, has to be on a web accessible computer. So, unless your harddrive is open to the internet (possible, but not necessarily a good idea!), then no, you can't link something on your computer.

Many ISPs provide space for personal web pages. You can just upload pictures to this provided space if you like. There are also other free photo areas like http://shutterfly.com , http://ofoto.com , and http://photos.yahoo.com/ . I know there are several others as well...

You upload your pictures to these sites, and then you can either order prints, or share your 'albums' with family and friends.

Does that make any sense? :D

Yes, it makes sense. My pictures now are uploaded at snapfish.com. Can I actually post a picture from them in a message, or just post a link?

That will depend on snapfish. Many sites like this don't allow linking back to their site. (That is, directly linking the picture). You would have to try to post the image directly, and if it doesn't work, just post a link to your album. There should probably be instructions on the snapfish site about how to share photos... Check their FAQ.

Thank you Tagrel. Unfortunately, you are right-they won't let you copy the image from their site. I know how to share a link to the pictures, I was just trying to insert a copy of the picture in my trip report. Maybe my project for the day will be checking some of those other places out.

Thanks again for your patience and quick response :-) I was getting a major headache trying to figure it out, lol.

Susan - let me know what your research suggests - I used to use snapfish, but stopped because you couldn't post individual shots.

Esmerelda, I let folks upload pictures to one of the forums at Our Laughing Place and post them elsewhere.. It's part of my "DisneyKin Pay It Forward" program

Feel free to upload them to the Computer Doodle forum at:
http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/aspplay/Computer_Doodles/forumid_10/tt.htm
and post them here to your heart's deLight :fairylove:

is there not a way around this by posting the picture in the picture gallery here.. then it will have a url address?

I have just posted 4 or 5 pictures on there..

Yes, once you post a picture in the Photo Gallery you can then refer to that picture by its URL address.

But, as with most things there are limits. If I start to run into disk space or bandwidth problems, or too many images are linked offsite (say, if you post a picture from our Photo Gallery in your signature on another board that is very busy) I may need to discontinue this ability.

So a guideline would be if you want to share a picture in a single post, no problem - but pictures from the photo gallery should not be used in offsite signatures or as avatars. This eats Bandwidth in a BIG way! especially on LARGE sites like DIS or Passporter.

thanks! If you have a specific question or requests, just PM me! :)
