Florida Strawberry Festival 3/2-3/12 2006

If any of you will be down here the first week or so in March, the 30th
Annual Strawberry Festival will be in Plant City! :bounce: :bounce:

It's not a far drive and it is a blast! The strawberries are HUGE and CHEAP! to boot!!!

This year, BIG AND RICH are the featured performers.

reminds me of when I was a little ronski... we lived on McCoy AFB right next to OIA--those days the Beeline Expy. was only a two way street--- my folks used to take us kids out to the u-pick-em farms and we stuff ourselves w/ strawberries out in the fields. Ahh, the pure joy of being a child of the 70's living in Orlando!!!!

One year when we went to visit my parents in February, we first stopped for dinner for some fish with them which neither of us were too crazy about. On the way back to their house we discovered that strawberries were in season! So we stopped at a farm and picked strawberries. We told our parents that instead of the fish we should have just gone strawberry picking because we would have been happier to just have eaten the strawberries for dinner. We didn't manage to eat enough when picking because we did eat some of the fish, but we still ate a good share of them while picking.

Fresh strawberries out of the field while picking are so good. Whenever I go picking, I have strawberry shortcake that night for dinner! Nothing else needed because I make nice big awesome tasting ones.

Even as I speak, I sit here before me with a plateful of the hugest, most lucious strawberries I have ever eaten.
Ronski, Dick just got them at the stand down from the hospital. They're from Ft. Pierce, surprisingly. After being sick for two weeks, what a treat!!

Sorry I haven't re visited this thread sooner. The Strawberry Festival is usually always in March, but you will see that there will be Strawberry stands on the sides of the roads this time of year and they are big and fantastic! The prices are awesome as well!

Here is a great Strawberry recipe that is delicious.

Take strawberries and slice them up in a bowl. Add a sliced banana or two.
Add a tsp of Orange flavoring (this will add a great taste as well as keep the banana from turning brown)
Sprinkle some sugar on top and stir a bit
Sprinkle in some sliced almonds to add a little crunch
Place in the refridgerator for a half hour or longer til ready to serve.

You can serve this by itself or over pound cake with a dab of vanilla ice cream.

This is a huge hit at barbecues or even just because.
