Depending on the time. We are definately planning on visiting with DD#1 in the Chapel Hill area sometime this summer (all I know is it won't be early July as we have a wedding in Minnesota). I'd love to attend if we can work out the particulars.

boy, how I'd love to do this. especially after missing MF this year. Even though I have family down in Charleston SC, I still don't think I could swing it financially. Sounds like a blast, and I haven't been up there in years!!!

Fingers crossed for a later date, rather than June - don't think we'll be moved by June 22 - 26. July sounds good - school starts early there, right? If I do find a school job, might be working end of August.

Whatever works best for the group (just hope it's after our June move! :wink: )

What airport would I fly into? And if I decide to rent a car from VA, how far is the drive from the VA border?

My vote is July 1st, then Aug 2nd.

Will it be hot? Is that a dumb question. Member, up here in Seattle, we don't have heat, just rain!!!

I was born in VA Beach! :D Spent many vacations in my late teens on Atlantic Ave and the Boardwalk... though I must say it has changed a lot over the years... I should get back there, it's been about 3 years since I've been :?

I'll be watching this thread closely to see where it lands, lol... I have out-laws in NC, so we shall see...

WOW, hopw about VA Beach! One of the high schools I attended was in Norfolk!

Anyway, we will not be in NC by July 1st. Michael's office here closes June 30th, so my guess is we'd leave within the week.

This all seems so weird - like I am following someone else's dream.

there are airports in Myrtle Beach and Wilmington, NC - I'll get back with the info.

Re: the dates - right now they are Thursday-Monday - we could change it to Wednesday-Sunday (I realize many employers don't like folks being out on Monday lol mine reminded me of that!)

I was thinking some of us could rent a house together - although in the Summer it might be a bit harder to do as they usually want a week's rent vs. a long weekend. We've found often that renting a house has been cheaper than a hotel.

This sounds very cool! If we stick with NC Beaches I am bout three hours away!
And for flying in - RDU is righ in my back yard so it is about 3 -4 hours drive to the beach depending on which beach they pick. There are smaller airports closer to the coast, but not sure what size plane you would end up on! :)

I already began looking at hotels - I'll give a few examples soon : )
For those thinking of expense (who isn't these days) I've found some on the beach that are BELOW $200.00 - there are plenty over 200 but I won't mention those - you can stay at those if you wish though :yes: We don't have to stay at the same place. Just like at Disney we all prefer different lodging : ) so if the buget is an issue - there are ways to get around it : )

For those of you who live out of state, Wilmington does have an airport,small butthere.If you choose to fly into Raleigh it's a 3 hour drive. Olle and it's a 2 hour drive.ettevir you can fly into Fay

Did I miss something? Where is this meet to take place? I've seen both Myrtle Beach and Wilmington mentioned except that Myrtle Beach is in SC not NC. And Wilmington, while in NC, doesn't have a beach. The nearest beach to Wilmington, and it's very near (maybe 20 minutes away), is Wrightsville Beach. I worked there for a while after I got out of the Corps 27 years ago. Wrightsville Beach was lovely. I'm sure it's much more built up today than it was then, but I'm sure it's still beautiful.

In either case there's no way I could make it. Between two nephews getting married (one on the weekend of the meet) and our August trip, there's no way I could swing it financially even if I didn't have a wedding that weekend.

Yes the beaches are very near and we'll know doubt hit the waves during the day :yes:

Well I'm glad you posted Timon, because I thought it was Myrtle Beach. I was kind of looking around thinking maybe, but that is because I'd like to check out Mrytle Beach. Oh well, maybe another time.

We have an Ocean Front house for the week at Southern Shores on the Outer Banks.

We'll be in Wilmington, Southport, Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach and Bald Head Island : ) Two Lighthouses, a Battleship, Aquarium, Beaches, Dinners - shops - ghost tours - mini golf tournament, Movie Studio and more - Riverboat Cruise on the Cape Fear River - friendships old and new. A wonderful event is in the works : )
