does ANYONE know ANYTHING about fixing driver problems? I am working on a compaq computer that was loaded with Windows 98 Second Edition, and compaq won't support me now because my warranty is outdated.... I did a recovery on my computer & now my monitor won't work correctly. I know they have everything on the D drive, because the same thing happened LAST time I did the recovery (lost the drivers for modem, sound card & monitor), but the tech support guy said if I disconnected everything BEFORE I did the recovery, it wouldn't happen again.... and GUESS WHAT??? he was wrong.... I did get my modem to work by downloading the driver for it from the internet (via my son's computer)...but don't know what to do with the monitor.
anyway I have an old 14" SV28 monitor (which obviously I didn't get with the computer) and it is only showing 16 colors (max). The only disk I have with it is a REALLY old 5-1/4" one. I know we fixed this problem before WITHOUT using any disks...... I just don't remember HOW!!!

I figured I'd ask in here in case anyone has any ideas. Email me calla@enter.net
Thanks!
Rhonda

Sorry Pixi. I'm not sure exactly what to tell you here....

Compaq doesn't have updated drivers on their site for that model laptop? Maybe if you did a Google search with the laptop model and Windows 98 second edition you might run across someone who has had the same problem...

Good Luck!

Pixie, check out http://www.driverguide.com/. It will lead you through several questions about your Monitor/OS and system, then should give you a driver file you can download. I have found a number of old drivers here for friends. You do have to register with them, but it is free and I have not had any problems from doing so.
