I realized today that I forgot to post a review of this film!
I saw Quinten Tarrentino's latest offering, Kill Bill (Vol 1), after work last Friday at my local theater.
Starring Uma Thurman, Lucy Lui, Vivica Fox, David Carradine, and Micheal Madsen, Kill Bill is the story of an assasin (Uma) who is betrayed by her employer, Bill (Carradine). Bill and the rest of his cohorts, the Deadly Viper Assasination Squad, show up at Uma's wedding, kill everybody, beat her half to death, and Bill puts a bullet in her head.
Somehow, she doesn't die, but lapses into a deep coma.
Four years later, she wakes up and goes looking for some payback.
The film is very stylish; so stylish is it, in fact, that many folks will walk out of the theater shaking thier heads and muttering, "Wierd!" I spent the whole movie thinking, "It's a Japanese anime with live actors." But that wasn't quite right. After the film was over, it hit me: It resmbles nothing so much as a Frank Miller graphic novel. For those not into comic books, Frank Miller is a famous comic artist renowned for his gritty, dark, depressing stories and dark, depressing artwork.
I liked the movie a lot; it has some action scenes that will blow you away, and a look like no other film ever made. It's not for everyone, but if you like Japanese anime or Frank Miller graphic novels, you'll love Kill Bill.
Oh, yeah, and it's Volume One of two; the movie ends with a cliffhanger which will be resolved in Kill Bill (Vol 2) next February.
I'm Chainsaw...
And I'm Dave...
And we'll see YOU - AT THE MOVIES!
