I hear lots of folks talking about how they "hate to drive while on vacation. I just want to be driven. I don't want the hassle of driving myself around."

Then there's me: driving is like breathing. I either drive myself, or I turn blue and pass out.

Which do you prefer, and why?

If we're talking about driving around WDW, DH and I love taking Disney transportation, regardless of mode.

If we're talking anywhere else in the country, I'd rather have personal transportation.

Good question. It'll be interesting to see the results of this one.

Around Disney, we are content to leave the driving to Disney. We drove the last 2 trips (1200 miles each way) and we (OK, 2 hrs on a plane was a bit more appealing to me...) really enjoyed it. My dh was so excited-he had never done a long road trip before, the kids, if asked now, would prefer to drive. Go figure! DH drives the whole time save for about 2 hours in the afternoon when he needs a nap. We've started at 5:30 in the morning.
That said, we do enjoy a car to go to Downtown Disney (packages) or a water park (don't need a change of clothes.)

"Home James" is my thoughts on Disney Vacations and a bus is just fine by me

There is just something about getting into a car and having to come out of the magic! It maybe that I feel like a kid at Disney and driving is such an adult thing - all the responsiblity of being safe, and not getting lost, and not speeding, and remembering where the car is parked. Sounds like being home! Yuck!

I love to take car trips, have traveled by car to the everyone of the lower 48 states but that is a different kind of vacation than Disney!

At Disneyland, we rarely use a car either. We just walk over to the park or use the hotel shuttles -- same reasons!

Great Question Will!

My husband prefers the bus but last trip it was so much waiting he finally agreed some things just need a car. Especially since parking is free when you stay on site. I hate waitng over 15 minutes for a bus and last trip we had many many 45 minute plus waits.

We usually take the bus unless we have early PS. Then, we drive ourselves.

We use Disney Transportation to the 4 Main Parks. For me the buses are part of the Vacation experience. I love being dropped off at the front of Magic Kingdom, I love talking to people on the bus & I love not having to worry about driving when I leave dead tired.

We almost always drive ourselves. DH doesn't like to take the busses and prefers having his own vehicle. We usually drive to WDW so we have our own car, but on the few occasions we've flown we've always rented a car to be able to get around. Must be a control issue because we just like the freedom to come and go when we want and to take the route we want! We've become more spontaneous on our Disney vacations over the years and having our own transportation has helped!

Buses while we are there.... I paid for it, why not use it, unless it is for a very late PS at some obscure place like WL where it is possible to get trapped late at night

I HATE DISNEY BUSSES!

I have never seen such inefficient transporation. My mother never drove and my father was always working so I grew up taking busses. Even when I got older and commuted into work I still took busses. At one time I took 3 busses in the morning so I could drop my DD off at day care. I know they can run much better than Disney does it.

Yes I have met some nice people on the bus, but I can meet just as many people in the parks on on the monorail or the boats. I do like the monorails and the boats although sometimes I even pass up the boat ride because driving is so much faster.

There is nothing magical for me getting on a bus at closing and having them pack you in like sardines with hot, smelly, tired, cranky, people many of them loaded down with packages. The tram is quick and within minutes I'm in my car not crowded with the air conditioning cooling me off - often with an ice cold drink from my cooler.

I also hate waiting for 45 min for a bus and then have a CM give me the standard Disney line - "busses come every 15 to 20 mins". Hello, I just told them I had been waiting 45 minutes! If they at least said they are "suppose" to come every 15 to 20 mins, I wouldn't get so aggravated. Either way, they have kept me waiting too many times longer than 20 minutes for me to think it is worth it.

BTW - Did I mention that I HATE DISNEY BUSSES!

I love Disney Transportation-
We drive to Florida and usually straight through (20+ hours) when I get out of the car I don't want to see it again until I get in to go home. I also hate friving when I don't know where I am or where I'm going. (although I think the signs for Disney are great). The one vacation we took with all 6 of us and had 2 weeks in Florida we drove in Orlando doing the Universal, Wet and Wild, SeaWorld thing- DH drove the whole time that was o.k. I don't mind waiting for a bus/boat/monorail, as I am generally a "comando" style tourist and this forces me to slow down a little.

We have always preferred having a rental car, but this past year we spent 16 days at Disney and I could not see paying so much for a rental car when we reallly did not need it. And after enjoying the most relaxed, adventurous trip with my family, we are considering not renting on our next trip, and going with Disney transportation again.

I did enjoy using all of disney transportation and now that my boys are a little older, they enjoy it also. W did use a taxi a few times and found that to be somewhat inexpensive.

Around Disney it is definitely Disney transportation for me. I love to park hop, and I love being picked up and dropped off at the "front door" of the parks.

Hi,

Driving or being driven--well, because I cannot drive, I must be driven. Of course that means taking the buses, and often waiting for the vehicle for twice as long as I actually ride in it. The alternative is probably a cab.

We're CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP! We usually only rent a car for our airport tranpo and (usually included in our aiport transpo day) through the weekend for church. Other than that, we love to ride the FREE busses, the FREE monorails, and the FREE boats! :) :) :)
