We are taking my MIL to a special lunch in the Castle. It is a surprise for her. We chose lunch because she didn't seem interested in Characters but we wanted her to experience a meal in the Castle. Have any of you ever eaten lunch there? If so, how was it? What do you recommend to eat?

I have only eaten there for lunch & loved it. I believe I had one of their salads which was pretty good. My brother had Prime Rib & said it was just about the best he had ever had.
We have eaten all three meals there, and though I tread close to herasy here, I like lunch and dinner better.....
The prime rib is excellent, their salads are great, and DW has said her choices were very good too (I just can't remember what she has ordered). All in all, it was a very good dining experience.

AliKat and I had the crab cakes for an appetizer, and the prime rib as our entree. It was my birthday meal and our waitress went all out decorating our table and me! The food was excellent and it was a great time too. If the wait isn't too long for a table by a window, I would do that. I love looking down into Fantasy Land from the castle. Good eating, and magical times.

Bernard and I were hot, sweaty and starving when we tried the Castle close to the end of their time serving lunch. What a wonderful refresher it was! First we met Cinderella and her Prince in the lobby and had a great picture taken of all of us. Then we were called upstairs. Service was swift but not rushed. I had an excellent chicken Caesar salad and Bernard had a barbecue chicken thing which he also thought was totally yummy. We were especially pleased that they were very good about refilling our iced tea because we were soo dehydrated when we got there (naughty!). All in all, a wonderfully Disney and yet adult lunch!

We have eaten lunch twoce in the castle and love it. All the meals were excellent especially the Prime Rib (just like everyone else said) DH liked the beef pie. He even got a Cinderella's Castle glass- we were sprinkled with Pixie Dust at the end of our meal. There's just something about being referred to as the "Royal Meyer Family" that made me feel Royal for one day.

LGC,
I'm so glad you asked this question. This is going to one stop for our next trip for sure. I look forward to hearing how you and your MIl liked it.

We often have lunch at the Castle and it's always wonderful. Brian usually gets the prime rib or the filet sandwich and I will get a big salad or a pasta dish. YUM
We will either go there early (as soon as they open) and skip breakfast and have a late dinner or go there late and eat a big meal. (Then just get a light bite or snack later in the evening). The lunch and dinner menus are similar but the lunch prices are better, if I recall.
Enjoy your meal...I'm sure it will be special for your MIL.

We have PS for dinner at the castle on 12/28(our first full day at WDW). We have 7:50 pm time and would love to still be there for some of the first parade at 9:00, but either way, I'm looking forward to it!

We're eating dinner there before MVMCP. We've never been in the castle before...we have all boys who weren't interested.
Can't wait! Sounds like a lot of fun. And we're hoping for a window seat, too.

The service is very nice. People get the "royal" treatment at all times of the day and even that alone is fun for kids. My grandchildren ate every bite of food put before them at the castle. No complaints about the menu or what arrived. My granddaughter doesn't like chocolate --can't believe it!, and somehow they devised a dessert treat for her, too.

I've had all three meals in the castle, and lunch is my favorite! I even took a few pictures; >)

Lunch - ooooh. Beef barley soup made from prime rib - tdf. Crusty rolls slathered with butter and a decadent dessert. What more could a woman want?
We loooove lunch at CRT. DH isn't nearly the Disney freak that I am (but I'm working on that ;) ) and lunch at CRT/dinner at Le Cellier are his only repeat requests.
The last time we went it was the middle of a exceedingly hot September. We were walkups so we had to wait for about 20 minutes, but when we got in the castle it was awesome. We got a window seat and our server was great. I had the Royal Poulet and Lance had the Coachmen sandwich. We also had the Crab Cakes as an appetizer. YUMMY!!
