View Full Version : Really tacky question

I am a former DVC owner, at BWV. Unfortunately, my ex got that in the divorce.
I have recently remarried, and my husband and I are considering purchasing DVC.
Here is my tacky question :
Has anyone ever exceeded the number of people allowed for a room?
We would most of the time want to take our daughter, who is 5, and my parents. A one bedroom unit seems plenty big enough for the five of us, but they are only supposed to sleep four. Will the Mickey police come and get us if we sneak 5 in? I was thinking we could bring a twin Aero bed for our DD to sleep on. I do know that one time I shared a studio with two other adults, and since none of us wanted to share a bed, I slept on the Aero bed then. There was plenty of room, and we were not exceeding the four adult room limit, although this gave us room to have slept five in a studio.
Anyway, I know it's tacky, but the two bedroom is just more points than we can mange if we buy right now.
Thanks for any input!

Well, this is known to be a hot topic with many members.
Some will point out that the RULES state that only 4 are allowed in a one bedroom or studio. (plus a child under 3).
That being said, Disney seems to allow this without sending in the resort police. What you will NOT get is bedding for the Aerobed, nor will you get towels for the fifth person.
Welcome to the site! Its always great to see another DVC fan! :)
Welcome to the site fellow Georgian! I agree with what Tagrel has said, no problems, just don't throw it in their face. My sympathies on the DVC loss in the divorce, thankfully my ex didn't want the DVC...or maybe she felt that other things were more inmportant ????

Like Jiminy Cricket has been known to say, "And always let your conscience be your guide."
If you are okay with 5 in a 1BR and DVC doesn't say anything, that is your decision. Like Tagrel said, you won't get extra bedding or towels. But you could always ask and pay for an extra set of towels (remember, one set will be 4 bath, 4 hand and 4 washcloths) which to me isn't something that unusual when you have 4 adults in the unit. Good luck with your decision.

Well, I don't have a membership, but when we did the tour, we asked this question because our family has 5 (3 kids). I said to the salesperson that it would be silly to have to use a 2 bedroom when we really only need the space for 1. I mentioned when I tried to get regular reservations, they were strict on that we would require a 2 bedroom. He said to us (much to our surprise) that you could put 5 in a one bedroom because their rules are not the same as central reservations. This is very interesting, because had we purchased at the time under this premise, we would be breaking the rules. Hummmm?????

As Tagrel said, this is a hot topic on some boards. Personally, I don't have a problem with a small child in with Mom and Dad. I just wouldn't broadcast it far and wide.
And another welcome to you, it is great to have another DVC fan joining us on the boards.

Thanks everyone for your input. I would only consider doing this while our DD is small, in another couple years I think we would buy add-on points so we could have the bigger room. 'Cause after all, one bathroom for 5 folks can be pretty darn uncomfortable! I called DVC today and spoke to a very nice advisor, named Celeste. The deal to pre-buy at SSR is so sweet, I think we just might go for it! The $10 off per point ends this month, se we have to decide soon though. Now just have to convince the hubby that that is the way to go. We have also been looking at resales. I'm still wishing I could get my membership at BWV back. I just LOVE the Epcot resort area!
Aimfred, if either BWV or BCV is where you really want to stay, are you sure you would be happy buying at SSR? (Granted, buying DVC anywhere would make us happy :mickeyHalloween: ) The admonition "buy where you want to stay" keeps running through my head. With the number of resales available for both of these resorts, finding something that fits your needs should work out.
JMHO, good luck with whatever you decide.
