On the Chicago Sun Times web site, there's a section devoted to reviews and essays by Roger Ebert. Within this section is a fascinating list of movies Ebert labels as greats. You may get good ideas here, films you might look for some evening when all the copies of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" are already rented at the local video store.
One of my favorites of these is Ebert's rich essay about "Pinocchio." He is knowledgeable enough about the art of animation to highlight innovations used in the film, yet those details don't take away from the warm regard he has for the movie's storyline, characters, messages, and beauty.
