View Full Version : Pleasure Island Renovations?
This may have already been discussed here, but we keep hearing about lots of changes coming for Pleasure Island ranging from the closing of just a few clubs and opening a few new eateries, to an entire revamp of the entire location starting in early 2006.
Of course my ire was raised quite a bit when I thought of the possibility of someone gutting one of my all time favs .. Adventurer’s Club.
Anyone hear anything on the actual extent or scale of the renovations?

No, I can't say I have but that would be very disheartening to think they might get rid of one of the favorites. They're all so good I'd hate to see any go.
So true! At first I didnt really believe it when we heard it from the boat captain on the way from Riverside to Downtown Disney. But a few other unrelated cast members have also mentioned it since, so that leads me to believe there might be at least a little shred of truth to it.
Who knows... it might be in the form of just a new paint job! LOL

This is taken from last week's park update over on Mouseplanet:
No more Hooplas?
A recent rumor that we've heard states that days are numbered for the entire lake side of Pleasure Island. Last week, we reported that "major enhancements" would be cause the end of the nightly fireworks at Pleasure Island and demolition of the West End Stage and Hub Stage. It turns out that there is more to the story.
The story, as we heard it, is that attendance has been down so badly at the Pleasure Island clubs that, even with extending Cast Member nights to five nights per week, they were still having trouble getting people into the clubs. Because of this, everything on the lake side of Pleasure Island will be demolished, and the area will be repopulated by contracted restaurants. Contracted restaurants have been the biggest money maker for Disney in the Downtown Disney area.
The rumor gives some time in early 2006 as the target date for the closure of the clubs and the beginning of the demolition. Should the rumor prove out, the only clubs to remain would be Mannequins, 8-Trax and the Comedy Warehouse. The rumor also states that another restaurant will be built at the far west end of Downtown Disney, between Cirque du Soleil and the Saratoga Springs Resort. If anybody has more information about this rumor, please let us know.

Oh man...taking out the Adventurer's Club would be a huge mistake. It's a one-of-a-kind place. If that were true, I wouldn't bother making a trip over there. I don't go for the clubs. I can do that at home.
Thanks for posting the info from MousePlanet Stinkerbelle. I hadn't seen that one. Unfortunately, it is all too consistent with three other reports of the 'worse case scenario'. We have been told, officially, the fireworks are going away at the beginning of the year as well, so things don't look good at this point for us Adventurer's Club lovers do they?
I will post any additional official info I hear. In the meantime... I had just fallen in love with the Adventurer's Club in the last couple of years. I am going to be bummed if they don't find another spot for it.

While I won't be devistated if the Adventurer's Club were to go away my BF would be. He is really up in arms about this potential change as its his favorite aspect of a WDW vacation. We specifically stay at PORFQ so that we can take the boat to Downtown Disney and walk over to PI to go to the Adventurer's Club as many nights as possible while we are there. Lets hope its all just a nasty rumor.

Here is today's update from MousePlanet:
Pleasure Island Update
Last week, we ran a rumor that all buildings on the lake side of Pleasure Island would be demolished and replaced by themed restaurants operated by outside participants, inadvertently setting off alarm bells across the Internet among fans of the Adventurer's Club. We have now received conflicting information from another source that indicates that the Adventurer's Club, at least, will not be going anywhere. Again, we do not have confirmation either way from those inside the Team Disney building, so there's no guarantee that this better-informed source is the final word, or whether it's just the Adventurer's Club or all of the endangered buildings that are safe. However, due to the conflicting information, we're now going to stand down from red alert and switch to wait-and-see mode until we get final confirmation one way or the other. The information about the West End Stage, the Hub Stage and the fireworks being done for, though, is still solid. They will all be gone.
We apologize for stirring up the hornet's nest, though in all fairness we did make sure that it was labeled as rumor and not fact due to the lack of confirmation.
Things could be looking up!
Thanks!! My DH will be thrilled to hear that. Personally Im glad I choose the rumor mill section for the question. :)
This will be an interesting story to watch.

Since the only reasons I went to PI were to go to The Adventurers Club, the Jazz Club and the Wild Horse Saloon if they were to close The Adventurers Club I'd have no reason to go to PI since the Jazz Club and Wild Horse Saloon are history now. While the dance clubs are fun, like ddoll said, I can do that at home.
