Park Rangers - March 24, 2004 Touring through Walts Eyes - part II

21:01:52 [BetsyAnn] "We believed in our idea - a family park where parents and children could have fun- together." Walt Disney

21:02:17 [SuzyQ] Bonjour BetsyAnn!

21:02:48 [BetsyAnn] Hey SuzyQ and TwirlerGirl!

21:02:59 [BetsyAnn] How are you both doing today?

21:03:14 [TwirlerGir] Hey!

21:04:03 [BetsyAnn] Hey Collette!

21:04:06 [Collette] Hi everyone!

21:04:59 [TwirlerGir] Just finished teaching 2 classes, so I'm tired. Glad I caught this tonight.

21:05:05 [BetsyAnn] Tonight we are going to finish Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt.

21:05:13 [SuzyQ] I'm doing good - BA. I got off work early and thought that I would pop in before I head out to Bible study. :)

21:05:32 [BetsyAnn] Glad you came in Twirler Girl

21:05:43 [BetsyAnn] Nice to see you SuzyQ!

21:05:51 [BetsyAnn] How are you doing Collette!

21:06:38 [BetsyAnn] We will get started in just a few minutes

21:07:05 [BetsyAnn] Here are some quotes from Walt to get us in the mood!

21:07:09 [BetsyAnn] “I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.”

21:07:18 [Collette] i'm good. feeling tired seeing everyone's busy schedules!

21:07:39 [BetsyAnn] “Too many people grow up. That's the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up. They forget. They don't remember what it's like to be 12 years old. They patronize, they treat children as inferiors. Well I won't do that. “

21:07:43 [SuzyQ] Great quotes!

21:08:11 [BetsyAnn] I understand that Collette - I have been tired for several days now!

21:08:17 [BetsyAnn] Hey Will!

21:08:24 [WillCAD] Hi guys

21:08:50 [TwirlerGir] Hey will!

21:08:52 [BetsyAnn] “Your dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway” Walt Disney

21:09:36 [BetsyAnn] We started this chat last time and only made it through Animal Kingdom and MGM/Studios

21:09:42 [SuzyQ] Hi Will!

21:09:43 [TwirlerGir] BA were did you find these gems?

21:10:03 [SuzyQ] looking for darker color . .

21:10:18 [BetsyAnn] TwirlerGirl - lots of places -- googled Walt Disney Quotes

21:11:00 [BetsyAnn] And my favorite Walt quote as of today - "When you do BIG things, you make big mistakes."

21:11:14 [BetsyAnn] Are we ready to start?

21:11:28 [BetsyAnn] Chat room working for everyone so far?

21:11:39 [TwirlerGir] Let's go!

21:11:43 [Collette] works for me

21:11:55 [BetsyAnn] If it locks up or freezes - if you click on your refresh button it should reload

21:12:17 [BetsyAnn] All right - Keep your arms and hands inside the chat at all times and let's go! :D

21:12:46 [BetsyAnn] Here is what we came up for AK last time So on our tour we have Safari, Tree of Life, It's tough to be a Bug, the trails, FoLK, Flights of Wonder and the Dinsoaur area

21:13:19 [SuzyQ] sounds great so far!

21:13:34 [BetsyAnn] And from MGM -So at MGM we have Muppets, Star Tours, ToT, Hunchback as our sentimental pick, Fantasmic and the Great Movie Ride, Sci-Fi and Prime Time

21:14:03 [Timon] Hi all

21:14:18 [BetsyAnn] So now on to Epcot -- If you were making a touring plan and you wanted to hit all the attractions that you think Walt would have been proud of -- what would you include?

21:14:18 [TwirlerGir] Hey Timon!

21:14:24 [BetsyAnn] Welcome Timon!

21:14:25 [Collette] do you think Hunchback will ever come back - i'm sad that i never got to see it

21:14:32 [Collette] Hi Timon!

21:15:12 [Travis] Hi everyone :)

21:15:17 [BetsyAnn] Collette - it would be something that I don't think has been done before - bring back a closed show - but who knows?

21:15:27 [WillCAD] I never saw Hunchback either.

21:15:40 [TwirlerGir] I'm betting the musical version of Snow White will find it's way here.

21:15:44 [Timon] Hey Travis

21:15:47 [BetsyAnn] Welcome Travis Welcome to Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt. We are at Epcot!

21:16:05 [BetsyAnn] I agree TwirlerGirl!

21:16:29 [SuzyQ] Hi Travis!

21:16:42 [BetsyAnn] So would SpaceShip Earth make Walt's list?

21:17:00 [SuzyQ] I think SSE is a definite!

21:17:06 [BetsyAnn] "But the most exciting and by far the most important part of our Florida Project...in fact, the heart of everything we'll be doing in Disney World...will be our Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow! We call it EPCOT."

21:17:14 [TwirlerGir] Yes!

21:17:14 [WillCAD] I think Spaceship Earth would fit Walt's list easily.

21:17:17 [SuzyQ] He had the "sphere" in his original plans didn't he??

21:17:30 [Travis] i think so B....he was into the future of things...but I does need a upgrade

21:17:35 [BetsyAnn] Welcome zakerdog! Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt. We are at Epcot!

21:18:20 [Timon] I don't think there is anything at EPCOT other than World Showcase that Walt would approve of. Walt saw EPCOT as a place where industries would work together and not be an entertainment park.

21:18:26 [TwirlerGir] I love WS. It fits Walt's entertainment/education intentions.

21:18:31 [BetsyAnn] I think it would have been part of Walt's vision too -- I think he may have looked at EPCOT as a totally different area than it is now

21:19:08 [BetsyAnn] Good point Timon - I agree - although I think there are a couple of attractions in Future world that might get his approval

21:19:25 [WillCAD] Walt's original vision of Epcot was a planned community. But as a theme park, does Epcot fit with Walt's idea of a good theme park?

21:19:37 [BetsyAnn] “I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.” -Walt

21:19:43 [MissBianca] Hi, all!

21:19:51 [MissBianca] You're doing Epcot first :(

21:19:54 [TwirlerGir] Walt died before EPCOT plans were firm. I think Celebration is closer to Walt's orginal plans.

21:20:13 [BetsyAnn] Welcome MissB! Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt. - We are starting at Epcot

21:20:28 [Timon] Journey into Imagination and The Land maybe but I don't think anything else.

21:20:36 [zakerdog] I think he would approve of everything in Future World except Test Track. It doesn't belong there IMO

21:20:37 [SuzyQ] Hey Miss B!

21:20:43 [MissBianca] I'm at work and will join you as soon as I can from home, just stopped in to see what was happening! See ya, BetsyAnn!

21:20:59 [Travis] i dont care for EPCOT...i think it needs an major upgrade :(

21:21:00 [Timon] Yes TwirlerGirl. Celebration would have been a part of EPCOT in Walts vision.

21:21:07 [BetsyAnn] Good Question Will - does it fit Walt's idea of a good theme park

21:22:31 [WillCAD] I think Epcot has been seriously neglected in recent years, but the idea of a permanent World's Fair would probably have made Walt extremely happy.

21:23:01 [Timon] Walt's dream wasn't for EPCOT to be a theme park. It was to be a place where industries could work together and the public could get a peek at it.

21:23:53 [Collette] I've never been to a World's Fair - what would be there?

21:24:19 [WillCAD] Yes Timon, Epcot is not what Walt envisioned. It is a theme park with the same name as Walt's original idea. But as a theme park, would Walt have approved of it? I think yes.

21:24:39 [WillCAD] Collette, have you been to Epcot? You've been to a World's Fair!

21:24:50 [Timon] Now that I think of it all I can remember Walt saying that all of WDW was EPCOT, but that not all of EPCOT was WDW.

21:25:00 [Timon] You got it WillCad.

21:25:21 [TwirlerGir] Timon, I agree with you but Walt's original concept isn't what WPCOT is today. It is another park, different than the others, it has it's own value of educaation and entertainment.

21:25:23 [BetsyAnn] Epcot has the science that Walt loved and the wish for a world community that he dreamed of - but not exactly what he imagined - he really was looking to have a whole new way to live

21:25:30 [BetsyAnn] IMHO of course ;)

21:26:08 [Timon] No BA, not your opinion, Walt's. You hit it right on the head.

21:26:25 [SuzyQ] Well guys, I need to head out to my study. Have a super evening and I can't wait to read your results!!

21:26:40 [Timon] BTW I'm chatting w/all of you on my brand spankin new puter.

21:26:54 [SuzyQ] Take care!

21:27:02 [zakerdog] I think he would have approved of it, a place to enjoy but learn at the same time through the different countries and pravillons - except test track

21:27:36 [BetsyAnn] Sorry got bonced!

21:27:47 [BetsyAnn] Good night Suzy and cool Timon :D

21:28:02 [BetsyAnn] http://www.mouseplanet.com/mike/ms031107.htm Is an article MikeS wrote on Epcot

21:28:41 [WillCAD] I think Walt would have enjoyed Test Track and Mission Space. I don't think he'd like a whole park of nothing but thrill rides, but he knew that thrill rides have a place in a good park.

21:28:50 [BetsyAnn] One of the things that captured me as a child about Disneyland was Tomorrowland of that day -- it had a lot of science in it.

21:29:00 [Timon] As a theme park I think Walt would have loved all of EPCOT

21:29:14 [Timon] Hi Nanc

21:29:15 [BetsyAnn] Welcome Tink1! Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt. We are in Epcot

21:29:18 [Tink1] hi all, sont let me interrupt!

21:29:27 [TwirlerGir] Test Track doesn't exactly fit but there is a tiny bit of educational material and a llot of entertainment.

21:29:28 [Collette] Hi Nanci!!

21:29:35 [BetsyAnn] So I think that Living with the Lands would have been a plus

21:29:58 [Travis] Hi nanc... :)

21:30:12 [Tink1] guess we mentioned Spcae ship earth already?

21:30:16 [BetsyAnn] I think Mission Space would get a big thumps up from Walt -- look at the Mission to the Moon, or Mars that he had at DL

21:30:47 [TwirlerGir] Land - very much in Walt's taste.

21:31:00 [BetsyAnn] I am a little unsure about Innovations

21:31:11 [Tink1] Mission to Mars, remember it from 1984 at WDW

21:31:27 [BetsyAnn] Yes, we have Tink but would love to hear why you think it fits into Walt's dream

21:32:13 [WillCAD] I vaguely remember Mission TO Mars at WDW from my first trip. I liked it, but I liked Mission Space better.

21:32:40 [Tink1] has every aspect that he so enjoyed adn strove for with shows like Moments w Mr Lincoln, and CoP

21:32:41 [BetsyAnn] Our Epcot list has Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, Journey into Imagination, Living with the Land, and maybe Test Track. what did I forget or include with conscent ;)

21:33:06 [Travis] < afraid to ride misson space....lol

21:33:07 [TwirlerGir] Innovations, Walt wanted to experiment with all the new technology available - so yes it fits. I haven't spent much time there.

21:33:21 [Tink1] sights sounds smells. hitting every sense in a pleasing manner, educating without preaching. adn he loved animitronics

21:33:30 [BetsyAnn] I remember Mission to the Moon from DL -but then I am very old!:0

21:33:52 [WillCAD] I think Walt would have liked the Maelstom and Rio del Tiempe. They fit well with Pirates, Small World, and Haunted Mansion style rides.

21:33:53 [BetsyAnn] Travis - I did it once Travis - you can do it once too!

21:34:04 [BetsyAnn] Good point Tink -- all the senses

21:34:12 [Travis] do you think i would throw up B? hahaha

21:34:46 [BetsyAnn] Travis> I didn't but was limegreen when I got off! ;)

21:34:57 [zakerdog] I think that Energy has to be on the list, where else would you be able to go back in time like you do in Energy and actually learn something at the same time.

21:35:22 [BetsyAnn] I agree Will - I also think a few of the movies from the countries may be on the list

21:35:37 [BetsyAnn] Good point zakerdog!

21:35:55 [Travis] is it a spinny ride? I dont do well on spinny ones! lol

21:36:03 [TwirlerGir] The Living Sea - exactly what Walt would have liked.

21:36:30 [BetsyAnn] Our Epcot list has Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, Journey into Imagination, Living with the Land, and maybe Test Track, Innovations, Maelstom, Rio del Tiempe, and maybe Energy

21:36:42 [zakerdog] What about the film in China, actual footage never seen by the outside world until Disney was allowed to go in and film.

21:37:12 [BetsyAnn] Energy has a tech feature Walt would have loved - a moving theatre -- unsure about presentation

21:37:43 [WillCAD] Travis, Mission Space spins, but you only feel the spinning if you don't look straight ahead at the screen or if you close your eyes.

21:38:19 [Travis] thanks will ;)

21:38:23 [Timon] Folks it's been a pleasure by dw is calling so I bid you all a good evening.

21:38:38 [WillCAD] Walt loved COP didn't he? I think Energy and Spaceship Earth have a similar feel to COP.

21:38:49 [BetsyAnn] Here Travis is my trip report I spill it all http://www.tagrel.com/forum/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=5078

21:38:54 [WillCAD] Nite Timon

21:38:56 [BetsyAnn] Hey Buffy!

21:39:01 [DisneyBUff] hello everyone

21:39:06 [BetsyAnn] Good night Timon - thanks for the great thoughts!

21:39:17 [Collette] Hi Buffy!

21:39:29 [BetsyAnn] Oh yeah Will - he loved COP

21:39:41 [DisneyBUff] I loved COP i could have just sat there and spun for ever..

21:39:51 [BetsyAnn] So is there anything else that needs to be added to Epcot list

21:39:51 [TwirlerGir] Hey Buffy!

21:40:14 [BetsyAnn] Welcome to Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt. We are finishing up Epcot

21:40:49 [BetsyAnn] We had some resturants on the list for MGM -- is there any resturant at Epcot that would fit Walt's dream?

21:41:15 [Collette] On the lighter side, I don't know how these "fit" but I really like Cranium Command and Journey into Imagination.

21:41:25 [BetsyAnn] Our Epcot list has Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, Journey into Imagination, Living with the Land, Test Track, Innovations, Maelstom, Rio del Tiempe, and Energy, the China film

21:42:03 [BetsyAnn] Good ones - Collette - I think Cranium Command is perfect fot the quote“I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.”

21:42:06 [zakerdog] Walt loved entertainment - what about the living statues and Off Kilter?

21:42:08 [WillCAD] I think Walt would have absolutely LOVED Cranium Command.

21:42:34 [BetsyAnn] Also very good ones zakerdog!

21:43:21 [zakerdog] Illuminatiions - won't that just please him

21:43:51 [TwirlerGir] Illuminations - perfect!

21:44:11 [BetsyAnn] Our Epcot list has Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, Journey into Imagination, Living with the Land, Test Track, Innovations, Maelstom, Rio del Tiempe, and Energy, the China film, Cranium Command, Living Statues, and Offkilter, Illuminations

21:45:24 [BetsyAnn] Any more for Epcot?

21:46:03 [WillCAD] Walt would have like the Living Seas back in the days when it was good.

21:46:05 [BetsyAnn] before we move to the Magic Kingdom

21:46:16 [BetsyAnn] Good point Will

21:46:42 [BetsyAnn] Our Epcot list has Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, Journey into Imagination, Living with the Land, Test Track, Innovations, Maelstom, Rio del Tiempe, and Energy, the China film, Cranium Command, Living Statues, and Offkilter, Illuminations, older addition of Living Seas

21:46:51 [zakerdog] He would have loved World of Motion - too bad it's gone

21:47:18 [BetsyAnn] good one zakerdog -- we can add a sentimental one here too!

21:47:53 [BetsyAnn] Our Epcot list has Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, Journey into Imagination, Living with the Land, Test Track, Innovations, Maelstom, Rio del Tiempe, and Energy, the China film, Cranium Command, Living Statues, and Offkilter, Illuminations, older additon of Living Seas and our sentimental favorite

21:47:59 [BetsyAnn] world of motion

21:48:30 [BetsyAnn] Are we ready to catch the monorail to MK - of course the monorail is a big walt dream!

21:48:49 [zakerdog] Good job BetsyAnne, you've got it covered

21:48:57 [TwirlerGir] We're on the move!

21:49:32 [BetsyAnn] Ok - we are at the Magic Kingdom - where do we start our Tour through Walt's eyes?

21:49:43 [WillCAD] Walt sure did love his trains.

21:50:18 [TwirlerGir] Main Street - Walt's home town.

21:50:58 [BetsyAnn] Both of those are excellant places to start!

21:52:10 [BetsyAnn] So where do we go from there - Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland?

21:52:42 [zakerdog] I think the MK is Walts dream, I like to think it keeps his memory alive. I don't think there is anything in the MK that Walt wouldn't approve of, so with those thoughts I'm off and will say good night, until next time.

21:52:49 [TwirlerGir] Not Toon Town!

21:52:55 [Collette] I like how we just lingered on Main Street :)

21:53:21 [BetsyAnn] Good night zakerdog - and we will have to discuss your thoughts one day! :D

21:53:26 [WillCAD] Liberty Square.

21:53:28 [Travis] well gotta go for now.....night guys

21:53:47 [BetsyAnn] Good night Travis!

21:53:56 [Tink1] me too Collette, I can pull up a piece of curb and sit on main street all day

21:53:58 [MissBianca] I finally get here and folks are leaving :(

21:54:00 [BetsyAnn] Where are we heading Will!

21:54:14 [BetsyAnn] WB MissB - we are just getting to MK

21:54:28 [Tink1] hi Miss B

21:54:29 [WillCAD] Haunted Mansion, of course.

21:54:34 [MissBianca] Thanks BA! Traffic was awful :(

21:54:45 [TwirlerGir] Liberty Tree Tavern.

21:55:09 [BetsyAnn] Ahh a very good one and you too Twirler Girl - both of those are very good on this tour!

21:55:31 [MissBianca] Did Walt live to see the Hall of Presidents?

21:55:41 [TwirlerGir] County Bears.

21:56:26 [BetsyAnn] Hall of Presidents is the child of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln so I think so MissB

21:56:34 [TwirlerGir] Country Bears - oops.

21:56:51 [BetsyAnn] And Country Bears would be another great use of technology and fun!

21:57:34 [MissBianca] HOP leans a little too hard on the learning and lacks in fun--but I think he would have liked it anyway.

21:57:56 [MissBianca] Hi, Sheryl!

21:57:59 [Sheryl] Good evening all

21:58:04 [BetsyAnn] As the clock on the wall is quickly moving toward the new hour -- Is there anything that Walt would not like at MK?

21:58:08 [TwirlerGir] Hey Sheryl!

21:58:11 [BetsyAnn] Welcome Sheryl!

21:58:50 [MissBianca] I don't think he would have liked what they've done to 20,000 Leagues

21:59:04 [TwirlerGir] Aeril

21:59:07 [BetsyAnn] Good point MissB!

21:59:18 [MissBianca] but I think he'd have adored Mickey's Phil, just like we all do

21:59:39 [TwirlerGir] Aerial's grotto ? Not much going on there.

21:59:40 [BetsyAnn] I agree MissB - great use of the new technology - and lots of fun

21:59:44 [MissBianca] right

21:59:47 [Sheryl] I've also heard that it is Eisner who does not want COP open all the time, isn't that one of Wlats favorties?

21:59:48 [Collette] I never went on Alien Encounter. Would have he liked that?

22:00:22 [MissBianca] Sheryl, COP is very Walt--in fact they have an intro film now that really stresses that.

22:00:27 [Sheryl] I'm looking forward to Mick's Phil

22:00:27 [WillCAD] I think Walt would have liked Alien Encounter. It had great use of technology and was funny and clever.

22:00:41 [BetsyAnn] The Grinch's time is limited in the Disney family! did I say that out loud - Sorry !

22:01:02 [BetsyAnn] I am thinking yes too - Will!

22:01:15 [Sheryl] Tink1> Hello

22:01:18 [MissBianca] I think the Stitch Escape will be even better :D

22:01:54 [MissBianca] Oh, and I bet he would have liked Buzz Lightyear--but he would have put it in Fantasyland

22:02:00 [BetsyAnn] Here are some quotes from Walt to help wound this up!

22:02:02 [Sheryl] Tink1> My mind is reeling, something major to think about here

22:02:11 [BetsyAnn] “We are not trying to entertain the critics. I'll take my chances with the public.”

22:02:41 [MissBianca] and we, the public, say YES!!!

22:03:00 [Sheryl] Tink1> what are we shopping for?

22:03:02 [TwirlerGir] Good night, had a great time.

22:03:09 [Sheryl] ROFL

22:03:13 [BetsyAnn] "It's something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing...and adding to."

22:03:33 [MissBianca] bye TG oops

22:03:37 [BetsyAnn] "It's something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing...and adding to."

22:03:59 [BetsyAnn] Well, this has been great - thanks everyone - you are the best!

22:04:17 [MissBianca] Thanks BetsyAnn--you're the best too!

22:04:21 [Tink1] thank you betsy!

22:04:30 [MissBianca] Are you going to put up a log of today?

22:04:40 [Sheryl] Sorry I came in so late

22:04:41 [BetsyAnn] Feel free to stay and chat

22:04:52 [BetsyAnn] Love seeing everyone --

22:04:54 [MissBianca] Sheryl, you weren't much ahead of me :(

22:05:14 [BetsyAnn] And MissB - the chat log is very current and you will see this one in there soon!

22:05:20 [MissBianca] Yay!

22:05:29 [BetsyAnn] Everyone have a good night and a great tomorrow!

22:05:38 [WillCAD] Nite BA, great chat.

22:05:53 [Collette] nite BetsyAnn and thanks!

22:05:54 [MissBianca] It's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day!
