21:23:37 [WillCAD] So I have stayed in Value and Moderate. What categories has everybody else experienced?

21:24:06 [WillCAD] oh, and once I stayed at Swan, which is Deluxe, but not a Disney resort.

21:24:34 [Travis] we loved AKL but hated how long it took to walk to the room....and its so dark in the rooms
21:24:35 [zakerdog] I've mostly stayed in the moderates and deluxe, but once we stayed at ASMu
21:24:36 [MargaretJ] Problem with Deluxe is once I stayed there I want to all the time now.
21:25:42 [WillCAD] What differences did you all see between Deluxe and Moderates?

be spoiled!
21:25:57 [zakerdog] As I mentioned earlier, I like to start at the moderate and then half way through move to deluxe
21:26:25 [WillCAD] I see the biggest difference as location, but I haven't stayed in Deluxe yet, only visited.
21:26:30 [MargaretJ] I think the biggest difference is Motel versus Hotel type resort.
21:26:48 [BetsyAnn] I think the major difference is more than one sit down resturant, a spa
21:27:05 [Travis] yeah that is a great thing too....we love that you cna hop right on the monorail.....
21:27:19 [MargaretJ] That is true with most Deluxe Will but AKL is pretty far off & WL is off a bit too.
21:27:27 [zakerdog] Moderates are very nice but deluxe's are awesome
21:27:59 [MargaretJ] AKL though has such great transportation that it does not matter the distance from most Parks.
21:28:36 [MargaretJ] I miss Food Courts too. I like being able to get something quick. All Stars have some of the best Food Courts.

21:29:19 [BetsyAnn] I agree MJ - food courts are better at value and moderates than at Deluxes

21:29:28 [MargaretJ] My only "real" deluxe stay was The Boardwalk. Now that is living.
21:29:57 [Travis] and a perk would be you can go into the park earlier for staying at AKL
21:30:04 [MargaretJ] AKL & WL are deluxe but I think they are on the value side of the Deluxe. Standard rooms are the same size as Caribbean Beach Resort.
21:30:19 [BetsyAnn] I think they could do that without too much trouble Travis - it must not be worth any extra $$ or Disney would have alreay done it!

21:31:32 [MargaretJ] The size of the rooms is a definite plus & I love how the vanity is set back from the room. You feel like you have a bit more privacy from the bed area.

21:32:38 [MargaretJ] The more we go to Disney the more important the Resort becomes to us.

21:35:09 [MargaretJ] How true zakerdog. My 15yr old told me that the Parks are just an extra compliment. He loves the Food & the Resorts.
21:35:44 [WillCAD] I have the most experience with Values. I personally love the Value resorts and don't mind them instead of Moderates.

are still top for me!
21:37:00 [MargaretJ] Money of course is a factor but so is length of my trip. If I am there for a short trip we almost always stay Value.
21:37:18 [WillCAD] Me, too, BA. The hotel is definitely still a big part of the experience, though.

21:38:42 [MargaretJ] I like the Deluxe because I like being able to go the common areas without going outside.
21:38:43 [zakerdog] I tried the value once, my husband was fine with it but it wasn't what I expect from a Disney resort.
21:38:56 [BetsyAnn] If I go back to the resort during the day it is to take a nap so I can go back out later! To me it is being on site that is important - the resort is secondary

21:43:51 [MargaretJ] I also found I liked the nice Laundry Room at AKL. On a 9 day trip in the Summer you need to wash clothes a few times. It was very nice with comfy chairs & a big TV.

ever thought that doing laundry could be magical!

21:44:48 [Travis] ohhh i forgot too! miss america contestants were there in 98 filming a video with christian singer michael w smith...that was cool....i got to be in the video....i screamed when i saw my self on the miss america padgent!! hahaha
21:44:49 [MargaretJ] Values are 260 sq feet. Most Deluxe are at least 380.
21:45:05 [WillCAD] I have only stayed at Swan, but the rooms at Swan are about twice as big as the rooms at the All-Stars.

21:46:01 [MargaretJ] The one thing I always tell people who split their stay is to do the less expensive resort first. When we went from Value to Deluxe it was like a suite!

21:46:52 [zakerdog] When I travelled with my son, laundry room was important, so was arcades - not anymore! DH & I want hot tubs and in room amenities.

21:49:40 [BetsyAnn] A nice quiet swim or soak in a hot tub - preferable with a nice cool drink is a lovely way to end the day!
21:50:23 [WillCAD] If you like the zero entrance pools, Poly has a fabulous one, and so does Portafino over at Universal.
21:50:53 [WillCAD] Portafino's pool has a beach with real sadn, replentished daily.
21:50:59 [MargaretJ] I have never been to Portafino Bay. Would love to stay there some day.

21:52:29 [MargaretJ] I have to say checkin at the Deluxe resort versus the Value resort is a totally different experience too.
21:53:12 [zakerdog] Here's a tip if you plan on switching resorts. Disney will look after your luggage - the buses don't go from resort to resort so you have do a lot of switching. Take a taxi to the new resort check in and then take off to the parks

21:54:19 [MargaretJ] We usually have a car zakerdog so we just drive from one to the other. I usually try to check in at 7a at my next resort. It has worked very well in getting a room early.
21:54:22 [BetsyAnn] There were a couple of things about check- in at Deluxe that bothered me on the last trip

21:55:43 [zakerdog] I like to check in early too, you have a chance to get a room or building preference.
21:56:39 [MargaretJ] There are not the stanchions at Boardwalk like at the Values. Plus there is usually no wait unlike at the Values. But heck you are paying a lot more.
21:57:10 [zakerdog] I know it shouldn't be different but I find the CM's friendlier at the deluxe resorts
21:57:16 [MargaretJ] Cast Members however are much friendly at the Values usually.

21:57:53 [MargaretJ] Usually at Deluxe they seem so stuffy & reserved to me. Values they are usally friendlier.
21:58:18 [BetsyAnn] I agree MJ - the CM at All Stars bent over backwards for us and at AKL it seemed like it was beneath them to be friendly or helpful!
21:59:01 [MargaretJ] But if you have a problem the Deluxe staff is usually better at fixing quickly.
21:59:28 [BetsyAnn] except in the resturants and gift shop! Very silly I think - the more $$ I spend the better I expect the service

22:00:17 [BetsyAnn] I think that is the general rule MJ - but I heard "There is nothing I can do about that" about 25 times at AKL from the front desk over very simple things -- unacceptable to me

22:01:20 [MargaretJ] We had a great CM the 1st trip to AKL. The next year though the woman was not so nice.

22:02:07 [zakerdog] The only resort I have found stuffy is GH. Beautiful but not as much fun, always feel like you have to tuck your shirt in!

22:04:03 [zakerdog] you know what, it sounds like it doesn't matter where you stay, if the CM's are great then your time there is great, if you get a CM that is out of sorts, it affects the whole experience.
