21:18:08 [BetsyAnn] Do we want to get started or wait a few more minutes?
21:18:15 [BetsyAnn] Hey Pam!
21:18:15 [DisneyPam] Hi kids.
21:18:17 [MissB] Hey DisneyPam, good to see you!
21:18:17 [zakerdog] I haven't seen the map but I will put myself on it for sure.
21:18:18 [Moley] Hey Pammy!!
21:18:40 [Moley] Let's get started!
21:18:43 [DisneyPam] Its good 2 B seen, Betsy!
21:18:47 [Moley] Welcome to Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt.
21:19:26 [MissB] I have thought that Walt would love today's technology!
21:19:38 [Moley] I agree, MissB!
21:19:54 [Moley] It doesn't have to be an old ride to find favor in Walt's eyes.
21:20:06 [BetsyAnn] and of coure the computer freezes on me!
21:20:28 [BetsyAnn] We have a few quotes to help us define what Walt's vision might be
21:20:33 [Moley] That happened to me last time. Very frustrating.
21:20:33 [BetsyAnn] We believed in our idea - a family park where parents and children could have fun- together."
21:21:04 [BetsyAnn] “Your dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway” - Walt Disney
21:21:04 [Moley] That means rides Granny can go on, not so many thrill rides. Wrong or not?
21:21:21 [Moley] Hey there, Briar Rose. It
21:21:25 [BetsyAnn] “I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.” -Walt Disney
21:21:31 [Moley] It's so good to see you! Welcome to Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt.
21:21:34 [MissB] Hi, BriarRose, glad you've joined us! BetsyAnn is giving us some Walt quotes for inspiration.
21:22:05 [BetsyAnn] And last to start with :“Too many people grow up. That's the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up. They forget. They don't remember what it's like to be 12 years old. They patronize, they treat children as inferiors. Well I won't do that. “ - Walt Disney
21:22:10 [BriarRose] fun great idea
21:22:11 [MissB] Moley, if you're an example of "Grandma's" generation, you are wrong wrong wrong
21:22:34 [Moley] I just knew Walt was catering to the 12 year old I never left.
21:22:41 [Moley] hehehe
21:22:51 [TwirlerGir] Hi !
21:22:59 [BetsyAnn] Me, too Moley - me too
21:23:00 [Moley] I'm more of an Evil Granny.
21:23:02 [BriarRose] I will always be 12 especially at WDW
21:23:05 [MissB] TwirlerGirl! so good to see you!
21:23:11 [BetsyAnn] Hey TwilerGirl and BriarRose
21:23:15 [Moley] Hey there, Twirler Girl!
21:23:30 [MissB] 12, that's a good age--not in the teens yet
21:23:36 [TwirlerGir] Hey!
21:23:37 [BetsyAnn] So let's do this park by park -- Lets Start at Animal Kingdom
21:23:42 [Moley] We are touring with on Walt's Original Vision Tour.
21:23:48 [MissB] Oh, good!
21:24:04 [BetsyAnn] Are there any attractions there that fit what we think Walt's vision might be?
21:24:04 [Moley] Walt would have been proud of AK.
21:24:16 [MissB] I agree Moley
21:24:25 [MissB] I think he would love the Tree of Life, first off
21:24:26 [DisneyPam] I think he would really like the safari....definitely entertains with a bit of education....
21:24:47 [Moley] Yes, Pammy!
21:25:03 [Moley] Also the Bug movie does the same thing.
21:25:23 [BetsyAnn] I agree with both of those - I also think the trails with animals would also be good
21:25:33 [MissB] I was thinking of the Tree itself--the way you can look at it in different places and always see something new.
21:25:36 [BetsyAnn] Good point on the Bug movie!
21:25:42 [MissB] It draws you in...
21:25:59 [BriarRose] the new addition of the carnival dinosaur area is a vision also just not large enough
21:26:35 [MissB] The Festival of the Lion Kings is something for everyone.
21:26:51 [zakerdog] I remember the animal shows that were on Sundays's Wonderful World of Disney and I think that Walt would be very proud of the Kilimanjaro Safari and the natural way the animals are displayed, and its a family adventure, no age restrictions
21:26:57 [Moley] True, Briar Rose. It is AK's Fantasyland for the little ones.
21:27:36 [Moley] Exactly, zakerdog. A ride the whole family can enjoy.
21:27:37 [BetsyAnn] So at AK we have Safari, Tree of Life, It's tough to be a Bug, the trails, FoLK, and the Dinsoaur area
21:27:38 [MissB] BriarRose I agree about the dino area--but Walt would
have made a movie with the characters, too
21:28:07 [BetsyAnn] I think the new Mt Everest attraction will be very much in the vision
21:28:24 [Moley] Oh yes. Wheeee
21:28:28 [MissB] I agree--exciting, unique, and fitting!
21:28:41 [BriarRose] but we can't forget the Kali River Rapids my dd loves that thing
21:28:45 [TwirlerGir] I think the layout of the park is in perfect harmony with Walt's visions. Broken into different areas, real life and fantasy , all in the same park.
21:28:50 [Moley] It is so hard to type with my arms up in the air.
21:28:58 [DisneyPam] I think he would be disappointed with Kali...I think he would feel that the story fall short....
21:29:02 [BriarRose] LOL moley
21:29:27 [MissB] Good point TwirlerGirl! I think he would love the lands there.
21:29:35 [Moley] Pammy has a good point.
21:29:39 [BetsyAnn] Another quote - “Whenever I go on a ride, I'm always thinking of what's wrong with the thing and how it can be improved.” - Walt Disney
21:29:52 [BriarRose] the only thing i don't think he wouldn't like is path areas aren't wide enough
21:30:03 [DisneyPam] He would like the theming of the queue and the basic story outline, but he would be disappointed that they didn't really flesh out the story in the ride itself.
21:30:25 [BriarRose] very true pam
21:30:42 [BetsyAnn] That is an interesting thought Briar Rose -- At DL none of the walkways are all that wide
21:30:46 [MissB] I'm not sure he would have liked soaking his guests with water, either. So many people do it and then have to leave.
21:31:13 [Moley] How wet do you get on the Matterhorn?
21:31:17 [BetsyAnn] I think you are right Pam - It does not seem to have the follow through in the actual attractions
21:31:41 [TwirlerGir] But do you think Walt would have adjusted to the tends in water type rides?
21:31:55 [BetsyAnn] Depends who you are riding with Moley - and how well
they do with the coaster!
21:32:30 [MissB] Yes, I think he would have, TG--but he would find a way to have people believe they were wet without being quite so soaked!
21:32:36 [Moley] He was always one step ahead, so he might have started a trend.
21:32:40 [zakerdog] Nobody has mentioned Flights of Wonder, again a family show and it is educational. I tear up everytime I see it when they talk about the Eagle coming off the endangered species list.
21:32:42 [BetsyAnn] I think Walt started the water ride areana with PoC at Disneyland
21:32:45 [MissB] I didn't even know Matterhorn was a wet ride.
21:33:14 [Moley] And jungle cruise before that, BA
21:33:14 [BetsyAnn] There are two huge drops in PoC at DL - it is the first ride of its kind that I can remember
21:33:40 [BetsyAnn] Good point zakerdog!
21:34:00 [BetsyAnn] So what about Dinosaur the ride? visionary or not?
21:34:03 [TwirlerGir] How wet to you get on the Matterhorn?
21:34:19 [MissB] good point zakerdog--I think it would be my parents (that Granny generation for sure) would like it best.
21:34:28 [BetsyAnn] Not hardly wet at all - it is more of an illusion!
21:34:38 [MissB] I think Walt would have loved Dinosaur the ride! I forgot that one!
21:34:51 [BriarRose] i don't think it fits into the vision personally we just rerode after years of not and remembered why we don't like it much
21:35:38 [Moley] I'm not sure, MissB. I think he would have insisted it be longer.
21:35:54 [MissB] I think he would have loved the advanced audioanimatronics and the atmosphereic affects--but maybe there should be two queues: bumpy and not quite so bumpy
21:36:08 [BriarRose] true Moley also it is so rough at times you miss the details of the story
21:36:15 [zakerdog] I agree BriarRose it doesn't give me the feel good feeling
21:36:22 [BetsyAnn] I think Dinosaur has the technology Walt would have loved but it does not deliver the whole package
21:36:51 [Moley] His rides never hurt.
21:36:59 [MissB] that's a very good summary BetsyAnn
21:37:28 [BetsyAnn] That is a pretty good point Moley - although there were complaints about Space Mtn when it opened
21:38:04 [BetsyAnn] So on our tour we have Safari, Tree of Life, It's tough to be a Bug, the trails, FoLK, Flights of Wonder and the Dinsoaur area
21:38:09 [Moley] Was he is on the design of Space Mountain?
21:38:45 [BriarRose] I have one comment about Safari
21:38:47 [MissB] That's a great list, BetsyAnn--I'd love that tour!
21:38:52 [BetsyAnn] Now you are testing my memory - I am just not sure - Walt died in 67 right?
21:39:03 [zakerdog] I agree he would have loved the technology, but he would want the ride to entail a selfless act like saving it from extintion or something and to Moley's point - it wouldn't hurt
21:39:21 [BriarRose] I love the overall part but not the very end it doesn't fit with the wonderful theme and interaction of the ride
21:40:05 [BetsyAnn] Anything else we need to add to the list for AK?
21:40:13 [MissB] The whole save Baby Red thing does feel like an "oops we have to fill some space"
21:40:41 [Moley] I think he would have ditched the Baby Red story.
21:41:19 [Moley] The parade. Walt would approve of that marvelous parade.
21:41:25 [BetsyAnn] I agree with both of you on the baby Red -- I also think there would be more jokes
21:41:30 [Moley] It is a must see.
21:41:46 [Moley] We were able to sit in chairs and watch it close up.
21:41:59 [MissB] Oooh, lazy butt parade viewing!
21:42:15 [Moley] Yes!
21:42:22 [BriarRose] that is the best way to watch a parade
21:42:25 [TwirlerGir] What about Conservation Station or what ever they are calling it now - I think it's a miss by a mile.
21:42:38 [MissB] Agreed TG
21:42:45 [BetsyAnn] ok - space mtn opened in 76 the best I can tell - so unsure if Walt helped with that or not
21:42:57 [zakerdog] I have to make sure I watch the parade when we go this year, for some reason I haven't seen it since the first year the park opened?
21:43:02 [Moley] Twirler Girl, you are so right. there should be so much more at the other end of that train ride.
21:43:17 [BriarRose] so true TG I think it is very "preachy" and Walt could always manage to teach without the preach
21:43:25 [Moley] me either, BA. Don't know.
21:43:37 [BetsyAnn] Rafki's Planet Watch - has great potiental but very little payoff
21:43:59 [Moley] I do like the train ride, though. It is restful with lots of butt time.
21:44:00 [MissB] I wonder if Walt would have liked the train ride to "Planet Watch"--it exposes some of the behind the scenes
21:44:11 [MissB] it's a really cute train though!
21:44:18 [BetsyAnn] "When you do BIG things, you make big mistakes." - Walt Disney - this quote may be one fo my favorites from Walt --
21:44:39 [MissB] Test Track's opening comes to mind...
21:44:54 [MissB] or the 27 delays...
21:45:04 [TwirlerGir] Petting zoo, informational booths, lots to read, little entertainment - no wow.
21:45:09 [BetsyAnn] I think Walt would not have allowed the behind the scence to be shown
21:45:10 [zakerdog] Test Track period comes to mind - I miss World of Motion
21:45:31 [BetsyAnn] Are we ready to move over to MGM/DisneyStudios
21:45:35 [MissB] me, too--I think the trend away from audioanimatronics is a real shame
21:45:55 [Moley] That was my favorite Epcot ride, world of motion.
21:45:59 [MissB] lol, yes ma'am! we took a little detour on the Test Track but we're set
21:46:15 [Moley] Walt would give two frozen thumbs up to Spaceship Earth.
21:46:19 [BriarRose] okay MGM sounds good
21:46:27 [MissB] Star Tours!!!
21:46:38 [BetsyAnn] Ok at MGM - what makes the list?
21:46:40 [BriarRose] Muppet 4d
21:46:41 [MissB] It's got Wow! It's got queue! It's got imagination!
21:46:44 [BetsyAnn] Hey Travis!
21:46:47 [Moley] Hey there, Travis! Welcome to Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt.
21:46:49 [Travis] Hey folks!
21:46:54 [MissB] Star Tours and Muppets!
21:46:58 [BetsyAnn] Yep that is for sure, Miss B
21:47:02 [MissB] Hi Travis
21:47:06 [zakerdog] The Movie ride - he would have loved that one I'm sure
21:47:07 [Moley] We've just moseyed from Animal Kingdom over to MGM
21:47:12 [BetsyAnn] I got to add ToT!
21:47:20 [Moley] I agree, zdog!
21:47:26 [BriarRose] fantasmic
21:47:45 [MissB] I think he would like ToT too--and the movie ride--and fantasmic maybe even best
21:47:48 [BetsyAnn] Oh yes to the movie ride -
21:47:49 [Moley] I think he would approve of ToT and think RnR Coaster needed something.
21:48:12 [TwirlerGir] Fantasmic - a winner in Walt's eyes I'm sure.
21:48:20 [MissB] Great coaster with an add-on theme, whereas the ToT theme and ride are one.
21:48:20 [BetsyAnn] The first time I saw fantasmic I cried, my Dad asked why - I said it is just so Walt!
21:48:20 [zakerdog] absolutly Fantasmic!! it is so amazing
21:48:24 [BriarRose] i think he would say we need to show off our movie products with more stage shows
21:48:36 [MissB] Aw, BA, that's so wonderful!
21:48:51 [Travis] I love fantasmic!!
21:49:15 [BetsyAnn] I agree with RnR - which is a blast - just need a little more details!
21:49:28 [MissB] The water screen technology would have been really appealing to Walt
21:49:31 [BetsyAnn] I agree with the stage shows
21:49:32 [BriarRose] RnR just doesn't have a true purpose
21:50:08 [BriarRose] psuedo themed thrill ride
21:50:29 [zakerdog] BriarRose I agree - its a roller coaster anyway you cut it
21:50:43 [Moley] He would have never allowed them to close Hunchback.
21:50:44 [BetsyAnn] yeah MissB and the use of the ships at DL, the use of almost all the characters and steamboat Willie was there too!
21:50:50 [MissB] Indiana Jones stunt show -- yes or no?
21:51:06 [BetsyAnn] I am 100% behind that statement Moley
21:51:08 [MissB] good point, Moley!
21:51:29 [Travis] they need to change the stunt show!
21:51:35 [DisneyPam] Right on, Moley
21:51:43 [BetsyAnn] I think hands down the best Disney stage show I have ever seen - including FoLK which I love too!
21:51:49 [BriarRose] it is very 80's
21:51:52 [TwirlerGir] No to Indiana -
21:51:55 [MissB] how do you think Walt would have changed it, Travis?
21:52:02 [BetsyAnn] I am not sure about Indiana -
21:52:11 [DisneyPam] Altho...I'm wondering whether, if Walt was still around, they would have gone for such a dark story for one of their animated features in the first place...
21:52:38 [MissB] Dark? And Snow White wasn't?
21:52:47 [zakerdog] no to Indy from me too
21:53:00 [MissB] It doesn't have that magic for me
21:53:14 [MissB] I think it's too big...to remote
21:53:26 [MissB] educational though (Indiana Jones)
21:53:31 [Travis] i think he would have had a few different shows.....its always the same skit..ect....it gets tiring after 2 times
21:53:45 [BetsyAnn] another quote - “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. “ - Walt Disney
21:53:46 [TwirlerGir] Indiana has no staying power, seen it once - that is enough.
21:53:50 [BriarRose] I don't feel it has a good theme for more than one viewing
21:54:12 [MissB] I worry about the new stunt car show for the same reason
21:54:18 [BriarRose] there are no hidden sights to discover each time
21:54:20 [Travis] briarrose! my words exactly!! thanks
21:54:33 [BetsyAnn] The technology would need to keep improving for the stunt show to stay fresh and I gather that is not the case
21:54:53 [MissB] Good point, BriarRose--it's the details that you notice each time that keeps you coming back.
21:55:37 [MissB] And stunts are so often about violence and that was not really a Walt thing
21:55:40 [BriarRose] with GMR I always spot a new detail something that says WOW
21:56:02 [BetsyAnn] So at MGM we have Muppets, Star Tours, ToT, Hunchback as our sentimental pick, Fantasmic and the Great Movie Ride -- more?
21:56:17 [BetsyAnn] I agree BriarRose - it is new every time!
21:56:22 [Moley] The Animation Studios would not have been closed.
21:56:37 [MissB] I think he would have liked the Honey I Shrank the Kids playground
21:56:38 [BetsyAnn] Hey LG!
21:56:41 [Moley] Hi Lime Green and Happy Birthday! Welcome to Touring through Walt’s Eyes - Together we will chart a touring plan picking the attractions in each park that best fit what we think represent the vision of Walt.
21:56:42 [BriarRose] i think he would love Prime Time and Sci Fi
21:56:44 [DisneyPam] I think he would have really enjoyed VLM...with the puppets and black light...he would have enjoyed the creativity
21:56:47 [MissB] Agreed Moley...I cried
21:56:51 [BriarRose] Happy Birthday to you
21:56:55 [LimeGreenC] Hey everybody!
21:57:06 [MissB] Happy birthday Dear Cheri!
21:57:30 [TwirlerGir] Happy Birthday LGC!
21:57:41 [LimeGreenC] Thankyou!
21:58:02 [DisneyPam] Many happy returns of the day, LGC.
21:58:09 [MissB] BriarRose--I agree about those restaurants. Walt did have a sentimental side.
21:58:10 [LimeGreenC] Sorry to be late, had a party, please don't let me interrupt
21:58:12 [BetsyAnn] That is a great point Pam!
21:58:46 [BriarRose] okay can't figure out VLM
21:58:46 [BetsyAnn] Those two resturants are more like attractions with food!
21:59:02 [MissB] Voyage of the Little Mermaid
21:59:08 [Travis] sorry to run so fast....bye guys
21:59:16 [BriarRose] thank you i went brain dead
21:59:31 [TwirlerGir] I think the Street Scape characters are very Walt like -
21:59:38 [MissB] (me too, I was pleased to share what I had figured out)
22:00:04 [MissB] Mermaid is the one MGM attraction that I have never seen!
22:00:13 [BetsyAnn] So yes or no to Voyage
22:00:15 [MissB] Would Walt have liked Millionaire?
22:00:29 [MissB] yes!
22:00:34 [BriarRose] he wouldn't have like the shrine to himself
22:00:39 [LimeGreenC] oh Miss B, you have to see it! It is one of my favorites, the story is chopped up, but the puppets are great!
22:00:40 [BriarRose] yes to VLM
22:00:40 [Moley] don't think so, MissB
22:00:41 [TwirlerGir] No to Mermaid.
22:00:46 [zakerdog] Have to run, this has been fun I hope you all enjoy the rest of your tour
22:00:56 [BetsyAnn] Not sure about Millionaire
22:01:00 [LimeGreenC] bye zakerdog
22:01:12 [BetsyAnn] It entertains and educates
22:01:22 [BetsyAnn] good night zakerdog -- thanks for coming!
22:01:39 [TwirlerGir] Not enough wow for me - VLM
22:01:46 [Moley] Briar Rose, I do think he would have liked the models of the park rides in that exhibit and the story of the invention of audio animatronics on display.
22:01:47 [MissB] BriarRose, I agree he wouldn't have liked it during his life...but
22:02:20 [BriarRose] i dont' think it wows as much as it should for such a great man
22:02:26 [BetsyAnn] Well, it is that time, we are to stop - would you all like to contiune to the two other parks or save them for another time?
22:02:36 [MissB] awwww
22:02:41 [MissB] Save them!
22:02:52 [Moley] Let's save them, BA. I have to leave.
22:02:56 [BriarRose] you know the best for last!
22:02:57 [TwirlerGir] Save until next time.
22:03:02 [DisneyPam] wow...is it that time already? I say save it for another time...they shouldn't be rushed.
22:03:04 [Moley] I really enjoyed being with you all. Thanks for coming!
22:03:16 [MissB] Agree with Pam
22:03:20 [BetsyAnn] Great -- Ok what is the list for MGM -So at MGM we have Muppets, Star Tours, ToT, Hunchback as our sentimental pick, Fantasmic and the Great Movie Ride, Sci-Fi and Prime Time and??
22:03:24 [MissB] cya Moley!
22:03:29 [BetsyAnn] Thanks Pam and Moley for co-hosting
22:03:32 [TwirlerGir] Great fun - Good night all!
22:03:32 [Moley] And thanks to Betsy Ann for such a creative topic.
22:03:38 [BetsyAnn] Thanks everyone for coming
22:03:40 [MissB] yes, great topic!
22:03:42 [Moley] Night
22:03:47 [TwirlerGir] Thanks BA!
22:03:48 [BriarRose] good night
22:03:59 [LimeGreenC] Nite all!
22:04:22 [BetsyAnn] Everyone have a good night and a great tomorrow!
22:04:33 [MissB] a great big beautiful tomorrow!
22:04:45 [MissB] good night folks
