Retirement at Disney - January 12, 2004

19:59:00 [Figgy] Hi, everyone I made it--it's 68 here right now!!

20:00:02 [Figgy] Hey, Sissy!! You made it!!!

20:00:16 [BetsyAnn] Hey Figgy, and Lou-Ann

20:00:27 [BetsyAnn] Hey BarbD and Smallworld!

20:00:31 [Barbd] Hi, I see last nights chat is still here?

20:00:41 [Lou-Ann] HI Sis..........Hi everybody......

20:00:47 [Barbd] Hi everyone

20:00:47 [BetsyAnn] It was in the 60's here tonight

20:01:19 [BetsyAnn] Yes, BarbD - the chats stay up for 96 hours before they disappear into where ever they disappear into!

20:01:22 [Figgy] That's not too bad. We're having a cool front thanks to Canada.

20:01:23 [smallworld] BetsyAnn, where are you located?

20:01:41 [Barbd] I want 68

20:01:52 [Barbd] Its 50 here right now

20:02:16 [BetsyAnn] Denver!

20:02:26 [Lou-Ann] 60 here in Texas.Just got out of the spa.

20:02:46 [Figgy] I had the heat on this morning as it was 50!! This is south Fl.

20:02:59 [smallworld] I think it's only in the 20's here! I am sooooo jealous of the rest of you. I am in Ohio.

20:03:16 [Figgy] Ohhh, Sis, that's where you were. Glad you got the message.

20:03:20 [Barbd] Small world we was about 15 degrees a week ago

20:03:28 [smallworld] OK Lou-Ann now you're just getting mean! ROFL Waaa!

20:03:57 [Barbd] Im in Washington state and we rarely get that cold

20:04:01 [BetsyAnn] the spa - now that sounds great!

20:04:17 [Figgy] Are all of you interested in moving to Fl?

20:04:32 [Lou-Ann] We had not been able to go in the spa in about 2 weeks due to the cold. It was 65 when we decided to go for it. Temp is dropping now and we came inside.

20:04:37 [SuzyQ] Hey All!

20:04:42 [BetsyAnn] Hey SuzyQ!

20:04:43 [Barbd] Yes Figgy I am

20:04:47 [Barbd] Hi Suzy

20:04:50 [Figgy] Hi Suzy!!

20:05:16 [Lou-Ann] Have you got my room painted and ready for me, Sis??

20:05:28 [SuzyQ] Figgy, I lived in FL for a year (working at WDW) and perhaps that will be in DH and my future . .

20:05:40 [Figgy] You know it is!!!

20:05:55 [BetsyAnn] I am not sure about Florida but would consider Anahiem ;)

20:06:02 [Barbd] If I could get my kids to move with my grabdkids with me Id go in a minute

20:06:07 [Lou-Ann] You worked there and left???

20:06:31 [smallworld] Figgy, I have parents in Bradenton - somewhat 'south'. Where are you located?

20:06:45 [Figgy] Sorry, I had a call!!

20:07:12 [Figgy] We're in Stuart, north of West Palm Beach.

20:07:47 [Figgy] I've heard of Bradenton, but not quite sure where it is.

20:07:48 [smallworld] SuzyQ, Do you miss Florida? And if so, what do you miss? Climate? Disney World?

20:08:19 [Lou-Ann] Rich says it is on the west coast near Tampa.....

20:08:46 [smallworld] Bradenton is on the 'other' coast of Florida, south of Tampa, nest to Sarasota and Siesta Key

20:09:03 [Figgy] As far as leaving kids behind, it's tough, but glad we decided to move. They have their own lives toled and most of the time, it wouldn't have included us. We made the right decision, as much as I love them.

20:09:29 [smallworld] Figgy, did you move from a warm or cold climate?

20:09:50 [Barbd] I can leave my kids its my grandkids I have a harder time to think about leaving

20:09:51 [SuzyQ] Hi Snickerdoo!

20:10:00 [Barbd] Hi snikerdoo

20:10:01 [smallworld] Hello Snickerdoo! I love that name!

20:10:01 [Lou-Ann] I agree that they need space for their own traditions. When we visit they are glad to see us.

20:10:05 [snickerdoo] hello all!

20:10:06 [Figgy] I thought I knew where it was, but wasn't sure.

20:10:21 [BetsyAnn] Hey snickdoodle mom!

20:10:35 [snickerdoo] hey Betsy!

20:10:50 [snickerdoo] I finally made it to a chat

20:10:51 [Lou-Ann] hi Snick

20:11:09 [BetsyAnn] Yeah! :D

20:11:11 [snickerdoo] hi lou ann

20:11:28 [Figgy] Gosh, I'll invite everyone down!! We have a solar heated pol and spa. I get pretty lonley down here. Especially if it weren't for Lou-Ann!!!

20:11:33 [snickerdoo] What are we talking aboput?

20:11:38 [BetsyAnn] Welcome to Retiring to Disney - dream or reality?!?!?

20:11:39 [smallworld] I don't have grandkids as yet, but as my kids don't seem to have any interest in returning 'home' I thought perhaps they'd visit me if I lived near the Mouse!

20:11:45 [snickerdoo] about

20:12:01 [snickerdoo] We moved to Orlando in April 1996

20:12:13 [smallworld] Snickerdoo - We're all relocating to DisneyWorld!!!

20:12:26 [snickerdoo] Orlando is great but lots of touristy areas of course

20:12:28 [Figgy] It is a relity--I am living proof. Lots of studying, and planning and a little help from relative who leave nearby.

20:12:36 [smallworld] Do you enjoy Orlando?

20:12:40 [Lou-Ann] LOL..This is true. They would have a free motel as well......LOL.

20:12:46 [snickerdoo] Hunters Creek is a nice area

20:13:08 [snickerdoo] I moved from Orlando to New York temporarily in Sept

20:13:18 [SuzyQ] Figgy, how far away are you from WDW/ Beach?

20:13:23 [Figgy] What about all the traffic in the Orlando area??

20:13:23 [smallworld] I've heard of Hunters Creek. Is that a planned community?

20:13:30 [snickerdoo] I still go down though every 4-5 weeksw thank gawd

20:13:31 [Lou-Ann] Is that a development in Orlando?

20:14:01 [snickerdoo] Yes Lou Ann. Hunters Creek is about 6 mins from WDW

20:14:15 [Lou-Ann] It has been our dream for years.......

20:14:32 [Lou-Ann] What do homes run in Hunters Creek?

20:14:37 [Figgy] and you're going to live near me--no excuses!!

20:14:39 [smallworld] Figgy, I'm interested in the studying and planning. Do you have any suggestions? Books or magazines or websites?

20:14:47 [snickerdoo] It is located near John Young and Hwy 417

20:14:58 [BetsyAnn] What things did you research when you started to plan to move to Orlando area?

20:15:16 [snickerdoo] the prices start around 125K thru 400K

20:15:33 [snickerdoo] the schools are good in Hunters Creek too

20:15:46 [snickerdoo] We later moved to Windemere

20:15:55 [snickerdoo] also very close to Disney

20:16:02 [Barbd] I would study the cost of milk, bread, gas and houses because you need less money if those things are cheaper than your current place. Around here a fixer house is 200K and milke is $3 a gallon so we need a higher wage than somewhere else with lower cost of living

20:16:04 [Lou-Ann] I have a book called where to retire in Florida by Richard and Betty Fox. It has a lot of info.

20:16:16 [Figgy] Start with Realtor.com to get an idea of home prices after you pick a particular county you are interest in. Then locate their newspapers on line. You can also check the census of the US. I've found out a lot through that as to median age, income, housing, etc.

20:17:12 [Lou-Ann] My book deals with taxes, weather, education, hospitals, etc.

20:17:20 [Figgy] We moved from the rich state of Ct. and find it costs 1/3 less living here.

20:17:23 [snickerdoo] Windemere is pricey but very nice.

20:17:35 [ronski] buenos nachos everyone!

20:17:38 [snickerdoo] Hi Ronski!!

20:17:45 [Barbd] Hi ronski

20:17:57 [Figgy] Oh, no not Ron!!! I've been meaning to mail you!! Ron lives in the town next to me.

20:18:04 [smallworld] I have a website bookmarked that gives you cost of living facts by state, i.e. taxes, etc. http://www.retirementliving.com/

20:18:14 [ronski] hope everyone is doingok?

20:18:25 [BetsyAnn] Ronski -Welcome to Retiring to Disney - dream or reality?!?!?

20:18:25 [Lou-Ann] I also subscribed to "Where to retire magazine". it compares Fla sites and many other areas

20:18:34 [ronski] what do you mean, oh no--not Ron???

20:18:35 [snickerdoo] Clermont is nice for retirement and still close to WDW

20:18:49 [BetsyAnn] Great link smallworld!

20:18:53 [Figgy] Now don't be shy, speak right up. Tell them how wonderful it is to live here. Dick say's hi, too.

20:18:56 [smallworld] Lou Ann I have gotten that magazine. It is very good. I will check out the book.

20:19:28 [snickerdoo] who is thinking about moving to FL?

20:19:33 [Figgy] But, Ron you do plunder and pillage, you know!!!

20:19:41 [Barbd] Some day I would love to Smallworld

20:19:42 [ronski] 'tis wonderful--especially when it's 70 in January.

20:19:50 [snickerdoo] Figgy!

20:19:52 [Lou-Ann] We are.

20:19:54 [smallworld] Hubby and I drove around the Clermont area. We were interested in the area around Lake Louisa, as that couldn't be built up too much on account of the state park.

20:20:07 [ronski] I'm a pillaging fool.

20:20:24 [Barbd] We are a mid40's couple and our kids are raised already so this is somethng we can think about with some sort of genuinity

20:20:32 [snickerdoo] Lake Louisa is very nice. All the areas on Hwy 27 are getting really big

20:20:45 [smallworld] Snickeroo, I am definitely looking into Florida. We are on the 3-5 year plan, but want to research it first to be sure.

20:20:59 [Barbd] Hey I think I invented a word

20:21:05 [snickerdoo] Kings Ridge is a very nice retirement community

20:21:08 [SuzyQ] Are those of you who live in FL retired? If so (or partially) what type of work do you do down there. I always tell my hubby that he can be a WDW bus driver and I will work at the Poly (again).

20:21:21 [ronski] not hardly

20:21:21 [Lou-Ann] I have been researching for about 4 yrs now.

20:21:21 [smallworld] Ronski, where do you hail from?

20:21:22 [Figgy] Something to consider is that inland it gets pretty darn hot. We get the wonderful sea breeze down here.

20:21:45 [ronski] born in KeyWest, lived in Fla most of my life

20:21:55 [Figgy] We are retired!! But very young (57-59)

20:22:02 [snickerdoo] Key West bis gorgeous.

20:22:09 [snickerdoo] is

20:22:13 [ronski] I'll be able to retire never

20:22:18 [ronski] was

20:22:31 [smallworld] SuzyQ, having worked at WDW, I have heard the pay isn't great, but the benefits are good - especially for retirees? True?

20:22:36 [snickerdoo] was?

20:22:49 [snickerdoo] the pay is not good at all

20:22:56 [Lou-Ann] You will do fine, Ronski.....

20:23:01 [ronski] cruise ships ruined my hometown

20:23:10 [snickerdoo] but you get into the parks for free

20:23:16 [ronski] that and drugs/ crime

20:23:18 [snickerdoo] LOL

20:23:43 [snickerdoo] ronski what town are you in?

20:23:45 [Figgy] I Think lots has changed in DW, with Eisner's antics. Pretty soon it'll be a Six Flags Resort.

20:23:46 [smallworld] Figgy, I think that's why the parents chose Bradenton. Their apartment complex is on an inlet, but they get all the breezes

20:23:47 [Lou-Ann] And I could sure get used to the Wilderness Lodge at 1/2 price.......

20:24:01 [snickerdoo] I was thinking Palm Beach area

20:24:18 [ronski] too congested

20:24:30 [ronski] it's a madhouse down there

20:24:33 [snickerdoo] Ft Lauderdale

20:24:38 [snickerdoo] ???

20:24:47 [BetsyAnn] Sarasota was a beautiful town/city - and had some retirement commnities in it

20:24:51 [smallworld] OK, why isn't the page loading?

20:24:52 [Lou-Ann] Where is it not a madhouse??

20:24:52 [snickerdoo] Cocoa?

20:25:03 [BetsyAnn] AliKat - Welcome to Retiring to Disney - dream or reality?!?!?

20:25:11 [ronski] my wife commutes to palm beach everyday--awful

20:25:14 [Figgy] Keep in touch with me, Snickerdoo, I'd steer you into Martin County, rqather than Palm Beach county. The taxes are enormous there.

20:25:15 [snickerdoo] Tampa is gorgeous

20:25:24 [alikat] Hello!

20:25:29 [snickerdoo] hi

20:25:35 [ronski] cocoa is nice, tiitusville too

20:25:40 [Lou-Ann] Hi there.

20:25:47 [alikat] I just noticed that there was a chat and wanted to pop in and say hello (and stay for a bit, of course)

20:25:49 [smallworld] Hello Alikat? How are classes going?

20:25:55 [snickerdoo] figgy, where are you?

20:26:18 [Lou-Ann] Where are the taxes the lowest?

20:26:18 [smallworld] Do I hear a vote for the St. Augustine area? Pricey? Affordable?

20:26:21 [ronski] in my backyard

20:26:30 [Figgy] I agree with Ron. I'm trying to steer Lou-Ann into Indian River County. Very reasonable living there.

20:26:34 [alikat] Classes today were great, but it was the first day, so who knows what the semester will bring :)

20:26:43 [ronski] pricey close to the city--ok elsewhere

20:27:01 [Lou-Ann] What are the towns named in Indian?? I will look them up.

20:27:06 [ronski] martin cty is the best

20:27:14 [Figgy] St. Augustine is pretty cold in the winter. It can vary fiuve degrees in the winter from us.

20:27:39 [smallworld] Thanks Ronski! I think I'll also research that Indian River County area...

20:27:51 [Figgy] Indian River County is Vero Beach, Sebastian.

20:27:54 [ronski] vero is real nice, but getting more expensive

20:27:59 [snickerdoo] I know a few peoplke that live in Stuart. They love it

20:28:18 [ronski] sebastian is a great place but no amenities

20:28:31 [Figgy] I sent Lou-Ann a bunch of mones in the $130,00- range that are beautiful.

20:28:31 [snickerdoo] they have a boat they use all the time and really are happy there

20:28:35 [Lou-Ann] Figgy is in Stuart

20:28:55 [ronski] I moved out of stuart to hobe sound

20:28:56 [snickerdoo] thats right! sorry Figgy!

20:29:17 [snickerdoo] do you like Hobe Sound?

20:29:25 [SuzyQ] Well, thanks for the tips everyone - I've got to run and catch a bus home (5:30 pacific time).

20:29:38 [BetsyAnn] Cinderella Welcome to Retiring to Disney - dream or reality?!?!?

20:29:41 [ronski] ok, see you

20:29:42 [Figgy] Yeah, Ron has a cute house. He even had it decorated with Mickey Wreaths!!

20:29:50 [Lou-Ann] Hi Claire.

20:29:50 [ronski] hi Cindy

20:29:51 [snickerdoo] hi Cinderella! how is FIL?

20:29:51 [BetsyAnn] Good night SuzyQ - have a safe trip home!

20:30:06 [smallworld] It is good to hear you talk of $125-$150K price range homes. I worried you'd have to be rich to afford a home in Florida.

20:30:06 [Cinderella] Hi guys. Sorry I'm late but I have a few minutes to read fast.

20:30:11 [SuzyQ] G'Night All!!

20:30:19 [ronski] I'm thinking of putting a second level on it now

20:30:21 [Cinderella] FIL slept all day and we hope to get him into assisted living this week. Thanks for asking.

20:30:23 [Figgy] Hi Claire,

20:30:31 [snickerdoo] nite Suzy!

20:30:44 [smallworld] Buy SuzyQ and Hello Cinderella! How are hubby and FIL doing?

20:30:48 [Lou-Ann] Are you ready to leave the cornfields for Fla. Claire??

20:30:52 [Cinderella] Hi LouAnn, Stud Ronski, BetsyAnn, snickerdoo, BetsyAnn, smallworld etc.

20:30:54 [snickerdoo] thats great news Clair

20:31:09 [smallworld] Oops! Just saw the answer Cinderella!

20:31:16 [snickerdoo] Claire

20:31:26 [Cinderella] Lou-Ann not ready to go full time to Florida - still like the change of seasons and talking to the cows near the cornfields.

20:31:30 [Figgy] Hey, Ron that's a great idea!!! Maybe Dick can help you build it. Dick said that could be very costly and you might see the trains!!

20:31:45 [smallworld] The cornfields of 'where' Claire?

20:31:51 [BetsyAnn] lol Cinderella!

20:31:52 [snickerdoo] please! what about all the rotten snow?

20:31:59 [ronski] that's ok--form the other side I'll see the ocean!!

20:32:22 [snickerdoo] there is currently 14 inches of the white stuff on the ground in NY

20:32:29 [Cinderella] PA smallworld - moved from NY last year.

20:32:31 [Lou-Ann] You could visit the cows in Magic Kingdom, LOL......

20:32:34 [Figgy] Snicker, Ron--great deal!!!

20:32:39 [snickerdoo] I hate it here in NY

20:32:48 [BetsyAnn] :D LouAnn!

20:32:49 [ronski] I figure with a fireplace it'll cost in the $80,000 range

20:32:53 [snickerdoo] the weather kills me

20:33:06 [Cinderella] Not much difference between PA and where we lived in NY - but a little warmer here for a longer time since we're near the MD border.

20:33:12 [Lou-Ann] Been there a great deal of my life.....Middletown and then Bronx.

20:33:14 [snickerdoo] I hate the snopw

20:33:20 [Figgy] What is SNOW? We have landscaping trucks that advertize "Free Plowing" down here!!

20:33:20 [snickerdoo] snow

20:33:33 [ronski] my daughter has small bowling pins up her shorts--lol

20:34:03 [smallworld] I think I'm ready to live in the warmth and visit the 'snow' - for a change!

20:34:06 [Figgy] You and your fireplace!!! Well, you gotta believe!!

20:34:07 [Cinderella] With my mom now in home in MAine and FIL almost in assisted living here we'd be on the road 11 months of the year to visit if we moved to FL.

20:34:29 [snickerdoo] thats true Claire

20:34:31 [BetsyAnn] Fireplace in FL? - why :)

20:34:35 [Cinderella] Bronx? Brooklyn was bad enough. Middletown was where my uncle lived for years and years - loved going up there to his property.

20:34:39 [ronski] gotta have it

20:34:44 [Lou-Ann] You could send videos.........

20:34:44 [snickerdoo] Are yopu planning a trip to see MOm soon?

20:34:58 [Cinderella] bowoing pins up her shorts Stud????

20:34:58 [smallworld] Cinderella, I was born in Maine and have relatives still there. Where is your Mom?

20:34:59 [ronski] I've always wanted a house with a fireplace

20:35:12 [Cinderella] I meant bowling - not bowoing - sorry.

20:35:16 [snickerdoo] we hardly ever used the Fireplace in FL

20:35:17 [ronski] very funny--4 of them!!

20:35:22 [Figgy] Ohhhm fireplaces are big down here. If it isn't cold they turn up the a/c!!

20:35:30 [ronski] gotta have it

20:35:30 [BetsyAnn] Ok - that is a great reason ronski - I am all for "because I want it!" :D

20:35:33 [Cinderella] Mom I think is near Sanford? Springvale? Brother is in York.

20:35:44 [Lou-Ann] We used our fireplace even in AZ. Evenings in winter were cozy with it.

20:36:01 [Cinderella] Did you guys list pros and cons of FL living f/t?

20:36:08 [smallworld] Be careful what you wish for Ronski. I've lived in homes with 1,2 and 3 fireplaces. This time we have one for 'wood' and the other that's gas. I love 'starting' my fireplace with a push of the button!

20:36:10 [snickerdoo] Hey Ronski, how about a Chiminea?

20:36:14 [ronski] nah-it just happened

20:36:23 [Lou-Ann] Good question........

20:36:47 [snickerdoo] these are great for the patio

20:36:56 [Cinderella] We had a woodstove in NY and I LOVED it except for the cleaning every few days and emptying ashes and cleaning the pipes etc. but our house was always 85 degrees. Now we have a gas fireplace - so easy to use and it's got a stone front.

20:37:01 [ronski] that's next

20:37:16 [snickerdoo] what is next?

20:37:19 [ronski] I'll get dual fuel

20:37:27 [smallworld] Oh my Cinderella! Ask your brother if he's heard of the Isles of Shoals and Star Island. He'll surely know them - just about 10 miles off the coast. I lived there 2 summers.

20:37:28 [ronski] chimnea thingy

20:37:33 [Figgy] The only con is making sure you both can adjust. My DH had a terrible time adjusting. I never thought he'd be homesick, but he was big time. He's leaving Thurs. to go skiing with our son and family. He is adjusting, but it took a long time.

20:37:36 [Lou-Ann] I love stone fronts..We have brick but floor to ceiling

20:37:55 [Cinderella] DH got a chiminea and I still don't know why. WE sat in front of it during 100 degree temps in the summer. It's too cold to sit out there in the winter. Why????

20:38:01 [BetsyAnn] good point Figgy!

20:38:14 [ronski] it's onlt 68 here

20:38:22 [smallworld] Figgy was it hard adjusting to the heat in summer?

20:38:23 [ronski] only--oops

20:38:49 [Lou-Ann] Hope Dick has a good time and that you enjoy your serenity, Sis.

20:39:11 [Cinderella] He lived in Newton MA for 40 years and moved to ME about 5-6 years ago right near the water. I'll ask about those places.

20:39:17 [snickerdoo] if you move to FL in like say Feb, you will slowly acclumate yourself

20:39:53 [smallworld] Thanks Snickerdoo, that's a good point!

20:39:58 [snickerdoo] your blood will thinout too and the heat will not bother you after awhile

20:40:05 [Figgy] The heat wasn't anything to me, but last year in July it was wicked hot. This year it has been realityly cool. The hottest month is Sept. I advise not moving in the summer, it'll kill you!!

20:40:10 [Cinderella] My ex-inlaws lived in FLA and we spent all vacations there. I HATED every summer vacation we were there. Long Island NY was humid enough for us but FL was terrible. I need my four seasons!

20:40:16 [Lou-Ann] We moved to Arizona in August at 115 and I thought I was in He--

20:40:23 [snickerdoo] Afetr you live in heat, it's hard to ever take the cold!

20:40:32 [Cinderella] Last trip to DW in August just about killed DH and I.

20:40:43 [ronski] I love the summer

20:40:51 [snickerdoo] me too

20:40:52 [Figgy] Now Sissy, not nice!!

20:40:55 [BetsyAnn] Trip to WDW in Sept just about did us in!

20:41:03 [snickerdoo] all 350 days of it!!!LOLOLOLOLOL

20:41:08 [ronski] I get to sweat buckets--feels good

20:41:08 [Lou-Ann] Yes I am cold in the winter in texas now.

20:41:09 [BetsyAnn] But then so did the trip in June!

20:41:23 [snickerdoo] cmon you babies!

20:41:29 [Cinderella] Lou-Ann - we visited AZ for the first time when DD was there and we stepped off the plane into 113 degree heat and DH tried to get back on the plane. It didn't feel as hot by the end of the week.

20:41:31 [smallworld] I guess I'll have to visit the parents in summer to be absolutely sure. If I can stand the heat AND the parents, I just might like Florida! ;-)

20:41:31 [snickerdoo] just jump in the pool

20:41:46 [Figgy] At leasat in the summer we can swim every day. Right now even with solar heat, it's too cold for me. I could kick up the gas, but that's $$$$!

20:42:02 [Cinderella] At my age, I enjoy the cold (you know, hot flashes and all) and really can't take the heat for that long.

20:42:02 [ronski] ride the bike to the beach

20:42:12 [smallworld] Do you think I'll sweat away some extra pounds???!!!

20:42:18 [snickerdoo] my kids love swimming in Dec, Jan!

20:42:21 [ronski] yea for sure

20:42:40 [Figgy] As far as the heat goes, we got from a'c'd homes to a/c'd cars, into a/c'd stores---where's the heat???

20:43:02 [snickerdoo] I agree with Figgy

20:43:09 [Lou-Ann] You never have to shovel it..That's for sure.LOL.

20:43:25 [ronski] lots of people cut their grass at night to get away from the heat

20:43:25 [snickerdoo] you have to mow it though

20:43:34 [Cinderella] The solution is: those of us who like changes of seasons can stay put and the rest of you can move to FL full-time and have guest rooms for us to stay and visit. That was easy wasn't it?????

20:43:34 [Figgy] The sweating didn't help me lose any ###'s but the pool sure did!!!

20:43:37 [BetsyAnn] We also played in the ocean one January in FL!

20:43:46 [smallworld] How about Florida's water situation? Although it's surrounded by water, is there enough to drink? And how does it taste? Do you have to filter or 'soften' everything?

20:43:55 [Lou-Ann] Depends on what you do for landscaping......

20:44:06 [Figgy] Ohhh, now I know why our mower has lights LOL!!

20:44:08 [snickerdoo] Wec always use Culligan for drinking

20:44:08 [Cinderella] FL water is gross to drink!

20:44:13 [ronski] martin county has the best water

20:44:13 [BetsyAnn] :D Cinderella!

20:44:24 [smallworld] Mental note: MUST HAVE OWN POOL! Thanks Figgy!

20:44:33 [snickerdoo] Or head over to Costco and buy Zephyrhills

20:44:45 [ronski] stuart city has better water than most

20:44:53 [snickerdoo] a pool is a must

20:45:04 [Figgy] I'm pretty fussy with my water so we buy it for .25 a gallon at a dispenser.

20:45:14 [smallworld] Ronski, you don't happen to work for the Martin Cty. Chamber of Commerce do you?

20:45:20 [ronski] I have county water and a well

20:45:36 [ronski] nope, martin county hospital

20:45:39 [snickerdoo] both ronski?

20:45:42 [Figgy] Ron is referring to town water, which our developement is finally geting. Right now, our's is well water and pretty yucky.

20:45:46 [Cinderella] My old house in NY had it's own well and we had the most delicious clean water 24/7. Neighbors would come over to get some in the summer as it was always nice and cold.

20:45:48 [smallworld] I am on well water, so that is great to know!

20:45:54 [snickerdoo] what do you do at the hospital?

20:46:01 [ronski] I test water everyday, it is very good here

20:46:06 [ronski] engineer

20:46:22 [Figgy] Ron burns himself!!

20:46:40 [ronski] lots of scars

20:46:43 [smallworld] Hubby sells water pumps - what have you got?

20:47:07 [ronski] for what?

20:47:46 [Lou-Ann] Anybody know what type of medicare options are in Fla? Each state offers something different........

20:48:11 [BetsyAnn] good questions LouAnn

20:48:25 [Lou-Ann] Unfortunately we will all need it when we retire......

20:48:26 [Figgy] We'll check into it, Sis.

20:48:29 [Cinderella] Doesn't FL have more elderly people then any other state? Or did it just seem that way when we used to drive around in St. Pete and Tampa.

20:48:53 [snickerdoo] Q tips!!!

20:48:58 [ronski] it's true--unfortunately

20:48:59 [Cinderella] Are there enough assisted living and nursing home facilities now for all the elderly moving down there?

20:49:04 [Lou-Ann] thousands of them..They opened the gates from NYC Claire....

20:49:07 [snickerdoo] thats what we call them

20:49:34 [Lou-Ann] Yes, but they will not live forever......

20:49:40 [smallworld] LouAnn, Try http://www.retirenet.com/ and http://www.retirementliving.com/

20:49:42 [Figgy] Martin County is a reasonably young county with 45 being median age. Up the coast are older folks.

20:49:54 [Cinderella] It's so funny to hear from friends who moved down to FL. They have meetings down there with all the NY'ers they knew when they lived in NY. Just as many in FL. as up here.

20:50:11 [snickerdoo] and down in Naples there are loads of elderly

20:50:27 [Lou-Ann] Thanks for the reference.

20:50:32 [ronski] keeps me in a paycheck every week

20:50:41 [smallworld] The parents like the Sarasota/Bradenton area because there is a mix of young and old. Lots to do - theater, the arts, etc.

20:50:42 [Cinderella] Anyone here who moved to FL. and then moved back again to where they came from? I know a bunch from my old church.

20:51:01 [snickerdoo] not by choice Claire

20:51:19 [snickerdoo] going back in a few weeks

20:51:31 [ronski] no, but lots of hospital folk retire to NC from here--very popular

20:51:32 [Figgy] Yes, Naples has lots of retirees. I tell you, Fl. takes great care of seniors. I am so impressed. Many, many programs. I love the people down here. I think it has a lot to do with the wonderful sunshine!!!

20:51:40 [Lou-Ann] Often when one goes the spouse goes home to the kids. That was the way it was in AZ

20:51:43 [Cinderella] Anyone here a native Floridian?

20:51:57 [ronski] me

20:52:05 [snickerdoo] Ronski is

20:52:09 [ronski] my kids too

20:52:14 [ronski] lol

20:52:17 [snickerdoo] blonde hair too

20:52:24 [Figgy] But you're a conch, Ron!!

20:52:28 [snickerdoo] for Ronski that is

20:52:37 [Lou-Ann] How is Ocala and Leesburg?

20:52:37 [BetsyAnn] My great aunt and uncle speak highly of the medical community in Sarasota!

20:52:39 [Cinderella] They seem to have very "sturdy" women here. The men pass on and the women take over the farm chores and stay put. Good old pioneer women!!!

20:52:48 [smallworld] So, anyone in the healthcare field should be able to find easy employment...

20:52:53 [ronski] yes, technically I am from the Republic of KeyWest

20:53:03 [snickerdoo] Ocala is about an hour and a half north of Orlando

20:53:15 [ronski] I love ocala

20:53:22 [ronski] horse country

20:53:25 [Cinderella] Should I tell my son to leave Louisiana and head for Fl? He's a paramedic (and diver on an oil rig).

20:53:39 [snickerdoo] get up there much Ronski?

20:53:40 [Cinderella] Isn't that another country Ronski?

20:53:43 [smallworld] What about the panhandle?

20:53:49 [Cinderella] Republic of KeyWest?

20:53:49 [Lou-Ann] Rich thinks it is really pretty. he taught there for a while.

20:53:52 [ronski] yep

20:53:57 [Figgy] Oh, my Gosh, are medical personnel ever needed!! Lots of opportunities!!!

20:54:29 [Lou-Ann] Figgy knows a Docotrs office that needs new help. LOL.......

20:54:33 [Cinderella] But how about pay in FL? Is it enough to meet all your bills?

20:54:47 [ronski] I do OK.

20:54:56 [Cinderella] I'd love to have one of our kids in FL so we have a place to visit when we visit Mickey.

20:54:57 [smallworld] Good question Cinderella!

20:54:59 [snickerdoo] depends on what you do for a living

20:55:07 [Figgy] It would take a long time explaining the Conch Republic to them, if they don't know!!

20:55:09 [ronski] live within your means

20:55:14 [Cinderella] Ronski: enough to keep you in kilts and boas?

20:55:39 [ronski] no way--then I'd have to expalin it to myself!

20:55:40 [Lou-Ann] Good answer, Ron..

20:55:45 [smallworld] Kilts AND boas?!!!

20:55:50 [snickerdoo] Ronski is a handso9me guy. I know. I've met him

20:55:50 [ronski] that's right Cindy!

20:56:06 [BetsyAnn] always the goal Ronski! ;)

20:56:11 [Cinderella] must be good pay then.

20:56:13 [Figgy] As a retiree we live comfortable on $2300 a month, that is all pension and 100% health coverage. We are extremely fortunate.

20:56:26 [Cinderella] Ronski is a STUD!

20:56:43 [Cinderella] Sounds great Figgy.

20:56:53 [snickerdoo] nice guy too! now he's gonna start blushing!

20:56:54 [Figgy] Yeah, Ron is pretty cute, but I think Ian is aging him, quickly!!

20:56:55 [ronski] ask the wife---she calls me "Dumas"

20:56:59 [smallworld] That's a good benchmark, Figgy. Thanks...

20:57:04 [Cinderella] Even if he wears ladies clothes.

20:57:18 [snickerdoo] 2 s?

20:57:28 [snickerdoo] LOL

20:57:47 [Figgy] Ohhh, don't get him angry, Claire. He has a mean temper!!

20:57:47 [Lou-Ann] Now Cindy....watch it ... I am a Scot too

20:57:47 [Cinderella] Watch your s's there snickerdoo!!!!

20:57:52 [snickerdoo] ronski> you do remember meeting me at Plunderfest?

20:58:00 [ronski] OY! The kilt is an honorable garment of great personal value!

20:58:03 [Cinderella] Yes but you don't wear men's pants.

20:58:23 [Cinderella] OY? A Jewish Scott?

20:58:29 [Lou-Ann] Aye Laddie

20:58:33 [BetsyAnn] yes it is ronski!

20:58:41 [Figgy] Hey Pam!!!

20:58:41 [ronski] of course Snickerdearie!

20:58:41 [BetsyAnn] Hey DisneyPam!

20:58:42 [DisneyPam] hey kids

20:58:42 [Cinderella] I still think you looked cute in your little honorable garment of great personal value.

20:58:48 [snickerdoo] hey Pammy!!!!

20:58:52 [Cinderella] Hi DisneyPam.

20:58:59 [Lou-Ann] hi Pam

20:59:03 [smallworld] So, for those of you who live in Florida already - do you get tired ever of WDW? Is it a more relaxed time when you visit? Or does it ever get blase to be so near?

20:59:27 [smallworld] Hello and Welcome DisneyPam!

20:59:34 [Cinderella] I have a question: How many of you Floridians get tired of all the company who wants to visit you so they can get to DisneyWorld?

20:59:35 [ronski] That kilt was worn by a soldier in the 42nd Highland Regiment and is 54 years old!

20:59:39 [snickerdoo] How can you ever tire of WDW?

20:59:50 [DisneyPam] I still love it...but it is still a 30 minute drive for me...so its not like I'm only 2 minutes away. I still love to go. Its weird sometimes having CMs recognize you tho

21:00:07 [snickerdoo] or the people that call ya and hi8nt around!

21:00:10 [DisneyPam] And people really don't come and visit all THAT often...

21:00:16 [snickerdoo] hint

21:00:33 [ronski] I live just far enough away that it doesn't happen

21:00:35 [Cinderella] I had one friend from NY who moved to NJ and then Jupiter. IBM family. Wanted to be near water and get bigger boats. They finally had to stop answering their phone the first year. Friends would come unannounced and stay and not pay toward food etc. They had to be strict after that.

21:00:35 [smallworld] Where do you live DisneyPam?

21:00:40 [snickerdoo] hows the stampede?

21:01:04 [Figgy] I went up six times last year. Dec. being the very best meeting everyone. It really made our Christmas Special. Our next trip wqill probably be in May. Naaa, I'd never tire of it. AND the Annual resident passes are terrific. terrific

21:01:14 [Lou-Ann] When I grow up I want to drive the boat from MK to WL.

21:01:25 [snickerdoo] <I love that Dixie Stampede!

21:01:40 [DisneyPam] I live in Maitland which is about 30 min. up I-4 from the LBV area. On the other side of downtown Orlando. I'll be moving soon down to the LBV area though.

21:01:52 [Lou-Ann] Thinking of May 23rd, Figgy.......

21:01:58 [Cinderella] That's what I want to do LouAnn. DH said I could. Maybe we could take turns?

21:02:05 [snickerdoo] are you moving Pammy?

21:02:06 [DisneyPam] Stampede is good...unfortunately, not quite as busy as during the Christmas season but still pretty busy...

21:02:11 [snickerdoo] when?

21:02:13 [ronski] I'm coming up by you this weekend for the highland games

21:02:20 [smallworld] Even closer...

21:02:33 [Lou-Ann] We'll see who gets there first.LOl..........

21:02:37 [smallworld] Any CM's among us?

21:02:44 [Figgy] We'll see Sis, we want to do asomething on our anniversary on the sixth, but if you're very good we might come!!

21:02:48 [DisneyPam] sometime in March when my lease expires.

21:03:00 [smallworld] It would be nice to hear about WDW employment...

21:03:11 [snickerdoo] have you found a place yet?

21:03:27 [Cinderella] LouAnn = that's only if my job as the "real" Cinderella is available.

21:04:10 [Lou-Ann] Rich found out today he can get that week off. We could celebrate your Anniversary, Richies 60th Birthday and our 26th Anniversary...........PARTY TIME.........

21:04:42 [smallworld] Dream job would have to be somewhere in or around the Magic Kingdom

21:04:51 [Cinderella] I've got to run guys. Looks like we have more we can discuss on another chat about FL living. "Talk" on site tomorrow. Have a good night. I"m a little pooped and headed up to bed.

21:05:05 [snickerdoo] I want Eisners job!

21:05:10 [Figgy] OK Sis. We'll Party hearty.

21:05:12 [ronski] night

21:05:23 [Cinderella] night night.

21:05:24 [snickerdoo] night Claire

21:05:33 [Lou-Ann] Night Cindy......

21:05:49 [Cinderella] Good night Mrs. Calabash wherever you are.

21:06:05 [BetsyAnn] Good night Claire

21:06:05 [Lou-Ann] I hope some decent rates come out............

21:06:05 [snickerdoo] well all, I will have to run as well. Raymond is on TV!

21:06:21 [BetsyAnn] Tomorrow nights chat is new years resolutions at 9 pm ET!
